THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OMAHA HAS ISSUED A HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK FOR POTENTIAL RIVER FLOODING ON THE NODAWAY RIVER IN SOUTHWEST IOWA…

AN AVERAGE OF TWO AND A HALF INCHES OF RAIN FELL IN THE NODAWAY BASIN.

THE NODAWAY RIVER AT CLARINDA…..

* AT 1:45 PM SATURDAY THE STAGE WAS 21.2 FEET.

* FLOOD STAGE IS 23.0 FEET.

* NO FLOODING IS OCCURRING…AND NO FLOODING IS FORECAST.

* FORECAST…THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO CREST JUST BELOW

FLOOD STAGE. HOWEVER IF A FLUCTUATION OF ONLY A FEW INCHES IS SEEN…MINOR FLOODING WILL OCCUR ALONG THE BANKS OF THE NODAWAY RIVER NEAR CLARINDA.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR…WESTERN ADAMS COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST IOWA…UNTIL 230 PM CDT.

* AT 1122 AM CDT…DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED AN AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN ACROSS WESTERN ADAMS COUNTY BETWEEN CARBON AND NODAWAY WITH UP TO THREE INCHES OF RAIN HAVING ALREADY FALLEN. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SHORTLY.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE…NODAWAY AND CARBON. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF AROUND 1 INCH MAY BE POSSIBLE THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON IN THE WARNED AREA.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OMAHA HAS ISSUED A SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR…NORTHERN PAGE COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST IOWA…MONTGOMERY COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST IOWA… UNTIL 1200 PM CDT

* AT 959 AM CDT…TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED HEAVY RAIN IN MONTGOMERY AND NORTHERN PAGE COUNTIES THAT WAS BEGINNING TO CAUSE SMALL STREAM FLOODING AND MINOR FLOODING OF ROADWAYS. OVER TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAVE ALREADY FALLEN IN SOME AREAS.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE…RED OAK…VILLISCA…ESSEX…STANTON…ELLIOTT…GRANT…COBURG…HEPBURN…PIERCE RECREATION AREA AND VIKING LAKE STATE PARK.

ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OF UP TO AN INCH IS POSSIBLE OVER THE AREA. THIS ADDITIONAL RAIN WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING. WATER IS FILLING UP DRAINAGE DITCHES AND IS UP TO THE ROADWAY ALONG HIGHWAY 34 AND IN THE VIKING LAKE AREA.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS…AS WELL AS FARM AND COUNTRY ROADS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND ALTERNATE ROUTES. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

AN AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTH THROUGH SOUTHERN IOWA OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. BRIEF HEAVY RAINFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE. MOST SITES HAVE BEEN PICKING UP A QUICK HALF INCH TO ONE INCH AS THE INITIAL LINE OF STORMS MOVES THROUGH…WITH RAINFALL TOTALS OF ONE TO TWO INCHES POSSIBLE THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS.

FOG IS DEVELOPING OVER PORTIONS OF WESTERN…SOUTHWEST AND CENTRAL IOWA EARLY THIS FRIDAY MORNING. WITH LIGHT WINDS EXPECTED THROUGH SUNRISE…THE FOG IS LIKELY TO WORSEN DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS AND BEGIN TO LIFT AFTER 8 AM THIS MORNING. PATCHY DENSE FOG CAN BE EXPECTED FROM TIME TO TIME THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING COMMUTE.

MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO ALLOW EXTRA TRAVEL TIME TO REACH THEIR DESTINATION SAFELY. ALSO…USE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS AND BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS NEAR INTERSECTIONS AND RAILROAD CROSSINGS IF DENSE FOG IS ENCOUNTERED. POOR VISIBILITY CAN HIDE APPROACHING VEHICLES AND TRAINS.

…THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR SOUTHWESTERN POTTAWATTAMIE
COUNTY WILL EXPIRE AT 715 PM CDT…

THE STORM WHICH PROMPTED THE WARNING HAS WEAKENED BELOW SEVERE
LIMITS…AND NO LONGER POSE AN IMMEDIATE THREAT TO LIFE OR PROPERTY.
THEREFORE THE WARNING WILL BE ALLOWED TO EXPIRE. HOWEVER SMALL HAIL
AND GUSTY WINDS ARE STILL POSSIBLE WITH THIS THUNDERSTORM.

A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1100 PM CDT THURSDAY
AFTERNOON FOR SOUTHWEST IOWA AND NORTHEAST NEBRASKA.
