* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR…SOUTHWESTERN FREMONT COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN IOWA…NORTHEASTERN OTOE COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN NEBRASKA… UNTIL 415 PM CDT

* AT 344 PM CDT…A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WAS LOCATED NEAR NEBRASKA CITY…OR 28 MILES NORTHWEST OF TARKIO…MOVING EAST AT 15 MPH.

HAZARD…60 MPH WIND GUSTS.

IMPACT…EXPECT DAMAGE TO ROOFS…SIDING…AND TREES.

Today: Areas of fog this morning; Mostly sunny w/a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. High near 85. Wind becoming S/SE @ 5-10.
Tonight: Isolated showers and thunderstorms before 7pm. Partly cloudy. Low around 67.
Monday: Mostly cloudy w/a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. High near 85. S/SE @ 5-10.
Monday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after midnight. Low around 66.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy w/a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1pm. High near 81.

AREA COUNTIES: SAC-CRAWFORD-CARROLL-AUDUBON-GUTHRIE-DALLAS….LOCALLY DENSE FOG THIS MORNING… FOG CONTINUES TO EXPAND ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTH CENTRAL IOWA. A FEW LOCATIONS INCLUDING MASON CITY…AMES AND CARROLL HAVE HAD VISIBILITIES DOWN TO ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS.

THE AREAL COVERAGE OF THE DENSE FOG IS EXPECTED TO EXPAND OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS AND IF THIS OCCURS…A DENSE FOG ADVISORY MAY BE REQUIRED. ANYONE TRAVELING SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR RAPID REDUCTIONS IN VISIBILITY.

Wednesday’s High in Atlantic was 85. We received .02″ an inch of rain Wed. afternoon here at the KJAN studios (.71”). Our Low this morning was 55. Last year on this date, our High in Atlantic was 76 and the low was 43. The Record High in Atlantic on this date was 108 in 1936. The Record Low was 34 in 1934.

Heavy overnight rains swamp northeast Iowa

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa (AP) – The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings for several northeast Iowa counties following heavy overnight rains. The service said Wednesday that more than 5 1/2 inches has fallen in Dorchester and more than 4 1/4 inches in Riceville and Bluffton.

Winneshiek and Allamakee county officials say several roads are washed out or are covered with runoff. Sandbagging is underway in Spillville and Fort Atkinson. School has been canceled in Decorah, Riceville and several other towns because of the heavy rain and flooding.
