THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR…MADISON COUNTY AND NORTHWESTERN WARREN COUNTY UNTIL 515 PM CDT

* AT 424 PM CDT…LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL…AND DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR WINTERSET…OR 24 MILES WEST OF INDIANOLA…AND MOVING EAST AT 30 MPH. THIS STORM HAS HAD A HISTORY OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 92 AND PITCHER ROAD.  LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE…WINTERSET…NORWALK…PATTERSON…ST. CHARLES…BEVINGTON…

THE  TORNADO WARNING FOR NORTHEASTERN ADAMS…SOUTHEASTERN ADAIR…SOUTHWESTERN MADISON AND NORTHWESTERN UNION COUNTIES WAS ALLOWED TO EXPIRE AT 4:15-P.M. THE STORM WHICH PROMPTED THE WARNING HAS WEAKENED BELOW SEVERE LIMITS…AND NO LONGER POSES AN IMMEDIATE THREAT TO LIFE OR PROPERTY. HOWEVER QUARTER SIZED HAIL IS STILL POSSIBLE WITH THIS THUNDERSTORM. IN ADDITION…STRONG THUNDERSTORMS MAY REDEVELOP…AND A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM.

LATE THIS AFTERNOON…MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 50 PERCENT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. BREEZY. SOME THUNDERSTORMS MAY BE SEVERE. SOUTHEAST WIND 15 TO 25 MPH.

TONIGHT…CLOUDY. NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH MIDNIGHT…THEN A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS AFTER MIDNIGHT. BREEZY. SOME THUNDERSTORMS MAY BE SEVERE THROUGH MIDNIGHT. LOW IN THE LOWER 60S. SOUTH WIND 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 30 MPH. CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS 70 PERCENT.

* AT 342 PM CDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO. THIS DANGEROUS STORM WAS LOCATED 10 MILES SOUTH OF GREENFIELD…OR 11 MILES NORTHWEST OF CRESTON…AND MOVING EAST AT 45 MPH.

* LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE…ORIENT AND MACKSBURG.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAYS 1″ DIAMETER HAIL FELL SATURDAY AFTERNOON, 7-MILES NORTH/NORTHWEST OF CARBON, IN ADAMS COUNTY. A TRAINED SPOTTER REPORTED QUARTER-SIZED HAIL FELL FOR ABOUT 5-MINUTES AT AROUND 3:05PM.  NO OTHER SIGNIFICANT REPORTS RECEIVED IN OUR AREA THUS FAR.

STRONG THUNDERSTORM MOVING ACROSS SOUTHWEST IOWA…AT 321 PM CDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A STRONG THUNDERSTORM OVER NORTH CENTRAL ADAMS COUNTY…MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH. NICKEL SIZE HAIL…WINDS UP TO 50 MPH…CONTINUOUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING…FREQUENT DOWNPOURS…ARE POSSIBLE WITH THIS STORM. LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE…BRIDGEWATER… FONTANELLE… ORIENT…GREENFIELD…GUSTY WINDS MAY CAUSE SMALL BRANCHES TO BE BLOWN DOWN…AND LOOSE OBJECTS TO BLOW AROUND. STAY AWAY FROM HIGH OBJECTS OUTDOORS SUCH AS TREES. SEEK SHELTER IN A STURDY STRUCTURE UNTIL THIS STORM HAS PASSED.
