Today: Rain and sleet before 11am, then rain and snow. High near 38. Windy, with a north wind 18 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Tonight: A chance of rain and snow before 4am, then a chance of freezing rain. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Windy, with a northwest wind 20 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Windy, with a west northwest wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28. Blustery, with a northwest wind 11 to 16 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

…STRONG THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE OVER SOUTHERN IOWA THIS MORNING… SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE MOVING EAST TO NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH ACROSS SOUTHERN IOWA. THESE STORMS WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE BRIEF HEAVY RAINFALL ALONG WITH SMALL HAIL. HAIL COULD RANGE FROM PEA TO NICKEL HAIL. STRONGER STORMS MAY BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING ENOUGH SMALL HAIL TO COVER THE GROUND.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A * FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL IOWA…SOUTH CENTRAL IOWA…SOUTHEAST IOWA AND SOUTHWEST IOWA…INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN THE KJAN LISTENING AREA..MADISON…RINGGOLD… UNION…and TAYLOR. FROM NOON CDT TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING

* PERIODS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE ANTICIPATED THROUGH THE DAY AND INTO TONIGHT. THE ENVIRONMENT WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR THESE SHOWERS AND STORMS TO PRODUCE HEAVY RAINS AS THEY REOCCUR OVER SIMILAR AREAS. RAINFALL TOTALS MAY REACH TWO TO THREE INCHES BY EARLY THURSDAY MORNING WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE IN FAR SOUTHEAST IOWA.

* FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS MAY OCCUR ALONG WITH SIGNIFICANT PONDING WATER ON ROADS AND IN DITCHES. LARGER RIVERS SOUTH AND EAST OF DES MOINES MAY ALSO EXCEED FLOOD STAGE BEYOND THE VALID WATCH TIME INTO THURSDAY.

Shelby County Fire Danger “Low” this week

The Shelby County Emergency Management Office has given another update on the Fire Danger warning signs in the county. The signs were at the “Moderate” category last week. However, with the moisture received in the area over the past few days, the signs are now at the “Low” Category. The next update from the Shelby County EMA will be on Thursday.
