Today: Showers and thunderstorms ending this morning; Mostly cloudy. High near 80. South southwest wind 10 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight:
Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 60. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light north northeast.
Monday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 84. Northeast wind 5-10 mph becoming south southeast in the afternoon.
Monday Night:
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.
Tuesday:
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. South wind 3 to 6 mph.
Tuesday Night:
A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Wednesday:

The National Weather Service in Des Moines says hot and humid conditions will return to Iowa early next week. Highs look to rise into the upper 80s to lower 90s with heat index values ranging in the upper 90s to over 100 each afternoon. Remember if you work outdoors to drink plenty of water, use sunscreen, wear lightweight and light colored clothing, and take breaks in shade or even AC. And please remember to LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK!!! Don’t leave children or pets in an unventilated vehicle or a vehicle without the air conditioning on.

Hazardous Weather Outlook: Severe storms possible later this afternoon (8/17)

Today and tonight: Strong to severe storms are possible late this afternoon and into the evening hours. The severe threats include large hail, damaging winds, and even a few tornadoes.

Sunday through Friday: Isolated storms are possible Sunday night into Monday and again on Tuesday. The severe weather risk is low. Hot and humid conditions return to the state on Monday and Tuesday where heat index values look to top 100 degrees.

Severe weather possible across southern IA Saturday afternoon

(Updated 11:30-a.m.) The National Weather Service in Des Moines reports there is a “Slight” risk for severe storms Saturday into Saturday night across the state and much of the region. Threats include hail and damaging winds over much of the state. There is a tornado threat across southwest Iowa. Locally heavy rain is anticipated at times as well.

Officials urge you to “Remain weather-ready Saturday into Saturday evening for the potential of storms in your area.” Monitor the latest forecast, and have a plan of action ready if severe weather threatens. Warmer temperatures are forecast by Monday and Tuesday.

…Patchy Dense Fog This Morning…

Some fog has developed in patches across portions of central Iowa. A few sites are reporting visibility around one quarter mile or less. This dense fog seems to be relatively patchy, but could
become more widespread through sunrise. Be prepared for a quick reductions in visibility from greater than 6 miles to less than a mile over short distances for the morning commute.
