Record High Temperature broken in Atlantic!

Temperatures across western Iowa are soaring this afternoon. Here in Atlantic, we hit 91-degrees at 2-p.m..  The old record for this date was 90, in 1981. The National Weather Service says temps are in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.

At 2-p.m. in Carroll, Harlan, Red Oak, Shenandoah and Cherokee, it was 90-degrees. The temps in central Iowa, were only in the mid-to-upper 70’s and low 80’s.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 57. North northwest wind between 7 and 13 mph.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. East northeast wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 44. Breezy, with a east wind between 13 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Patchy frost after 4am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 36. North northwest wind between 5 and 13 mph.

Monday: Patchy frost before 7am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 65. North northwest wind between 5 and 8 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 45. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming south.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind between 8 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.

NWS: 2 twisters spotted in NW Iowa but no damage

SPENCER, Iowa (AP) — Two apparent tornadoes have touched down in northwest Iowa but no damage was reported. National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Temeyer said one twister touched down east of Spencer about 4:30 p.m. Saturday and the second was spotted 15 minutes later about 10 miles southeast of Dickens. Temeyer says the tornadoes were in rural areas and no damage was reported. The storm system also brought hail, heavy rain and several funnel clouds that didn’t reach the ground.
