MVAOCOU Cross Country Invitational results

The MVAOCOU Cross Country Invitational was contested on Thursday night with a few area teams competing.

On the Boys side Woodbine finished 2nd, Dension-Schleswig was 4th, and Treynor finished 6th. Cole Dooley of Treynor was runner-up and his teammate Mason Yochum came in 10th.

In the girls race Denison-Schleswig finished 3rd and Treynor was 5th. Claire Miller of Denison-Schleswig was the top area runner in 8th.

ACGC dominates home cross country meet

The ACGC Chargers dominated their home cross country meet on Thursday. The boys notched a perfect score of 15 with the top 6 finishers on the night. Trevin Suhr led the way in the top spot. The girls scored 26 points and were led by an individual title from Rylee Sloss.

Nodaway Valley swept the team titles at the Audubon Cross Country Meet on Thursday. The Wolverines notched 56 points to win the boys title, led by a championship from Toby Bower. The girls scored 48 points and were led by a runner-up finish from Sophia Broers.

Atlantic starts strong but can’t close out St. Albert volleyball

The Atlantic Trojans Volleyball Team started strong on senior night by opening with wins in the first two sets against St. Albert but they didn’t close the win. St. Albert rallied to win the 3rd and 4th sets fairly decisively and then edged out the Trojans in the 5th.

The final scoring on the night (3-2) St. Albert 24-23-25-25-15, Atlantic 26-25-14-18-13. Allie Petry was strong at the net for the Saintes and was honored by her teammates after the game for reaching the 1,000 kill plateau for her career.

The Saintes improved to 6-10 on the season and will next host Abe Lincoln on Tuesday. Atlantic falls to 8-14 and will travel to Lewis Central next Tuesday.

AHSTW versus St. Albert football cancelled for Friday

The AHSTW versus St. Albert football game that was scheduled for this Friday night in Avoca has been cancelled. The cancellation was made out of health concern cautions within the AHSTW school district. AHSTW also cancelled their Thursday night volleyball match with Tri-Center.

St. Albert school officials have said they are searching for an opponent on short notice if they can find one.

IA COVID-19 update for 9/24/20: 9 more deaths, 2,481 additional case positives

The Iowa Department of Public Health’s Coronavirus dashboard, today (Thursday), shows the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 jumped from 1,293 Wednesday to 1,302 today, an increase of 9. Positive test results are up by 2,481 since our last update at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, to 83,590 since the pandemic began. The data show 13 more positive cases in Cass County for a total of 153.

IDPH says says: 61,515 Iowans have recovered from the virus; 894 of the COVID-19 deaths involved persons with pre-existing conditions, and 677 deaths have occurred at Long-Term Care facilities. There have been 759,921 Iowans tested for the virus. IDPH reported 6,655 lab test results received in the previous day, with 729 positive results and 5,909 negative results (total negative results=674,786). IDPH reports a positivity rate of 9.2% over the last 14 days.

IDPH reported 41 long-term care facilities with coronavirus outbreaks, no more than the previous day. There are 974 positive cases and 566 recoveries within those facilities.

Across the State, hospitalizations are up to 330. The number of patients with COVID-19 who are in an ICU is at 87;  36 people were admitted to a hospital since 10-a.m. Tuesday, and there are 35 patients on ventilators across the state.

In western/southwest Iowa, hospitals report 16 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 (4 more than on Wednesday); 5 are in an ICU; 4 were admitted to an area hospital with symptoms, and one person remains on a ventilator.

MERLE E. VOKT, 91, of Adair died Wednesday, September 23rd at his home.  Funeral services for MERLE E. VOKT will be held on Monday, September 28th at 11:00 am at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita.  Hockenberry Family Care in Anita is handling the arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the funeral home.

Burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita.

Memorials may be left to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita or the Adair Fire Department.
