The Iowa Newspaper Association announced their All-State Football honorees on Wednesday.  6 honorary captains were named for each class along with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team honorees in each class.

The honorary captains will be up for the Ed Thomas Mr. Football and they include:  4A- Shaun Beyer, Cedar Rapids Kennedy WR/DB.  3A- Noah Clayberg, Pella QB.  2A- Logan Backhaus, Spirit Lake QB.  1A- Carson Lensing, South Winnishiek DE/TE.  A- Colton Dinsdale, Gladbrook-Reinbeck MLB/RB/WR/KR.  8-Man- Ben Specht, MMC QB.

DANIEL ALLAN SCHIMEROWSKI, 26, of Clinton, died Mon., Nov. 23rd. A Memorial service for DANIEL SCHIMEROWSKI will be held 11-a.m. Sat., Nov. 28th, at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home, in Harlan.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home one-hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday (10am-11am).

His mother – Deb Schimerowski & husband Craig Wehr, of Park View.

His father – Mike Schimerowski & wife Lee Bertoncella, of Earling.

DOREEN PETERSEN, 52, of Avoca (& formerly of Council Bluffs), died Tue., Nov. 24th, at the Avoca Nursing & Rehab Center. A Celebration of Life service for DOREEN PETERSEN will be held from 11-am until 1-pm Mon., Nov. 30th, at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home, in Atlantic.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Tools and equipment stolen from trailer in Afton

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says an Afton man reported Nov. 13th, that someone had entered his work trailer parked at his residence. During the incident, an Air compressor, Milwaukee tool set & 5 batteries, DeWalt trim nailer, Big Speed square, siding tabbers, Stiletto hammer, snips, air hose, and shop vac, were taken. The loss was estimated at $2,490.

The incident, which took place sometime after 8-p.m., remains under investigation.

VYRL CADWELL, 95, of Manilla (Svcs. 12-05-2015)

VYRL CADWELL, 95, of Manilla, died Wed., Nov. 25th, at the Eventide Nursing Home, in Denison. Funeral Services for VYRL CADWELL will be held Saturday, December 5th at 10:30am at the United Church in Manilla. Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla has the arrangements.

Burial will be in the Nishnabotna Cemetery near Manilla.

Friends may call on Friday, December 4th from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the funeral home.  Visitation will resume Saturday at 9:30am at the church prior to the services.

VYRL CADWELL is survived by:

Red Oak man arrested for OWI following pickup rollover

An investigation into a rollover accident Wednesday afternoon southwest of Red Oak resulted in the driver of a pickup being arrested for operating while intoxicated. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year old Dylan J. Hambright, of Red Oak, was traveling south on G Avenue at around 12:30-p.m., and had just exited the railroad underpass, when he lost control of the 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup he was driving.

When Hambright over-corrected, the vehicle went into the east ditch and landed on its side, sustaining $5,000 damage. Hambright was arrested on a charge of OWI/1st offense. He was being held in the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center on $2,000 cash bond.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Red Oak Police and Red Oak Fire and Rescue.
