Northwestern wipes out 17-point deficit to beat Iowa 21-20

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Jesse Brown scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 2-yard run in the third quarter, and Northwestern erased an early 17-point deficit to beat Iowa 21-20. The Wildcats outscored the Hawkeyes 21-3 after the first quarter, eating up clock and keeping the Hawkeye offense out of rhythm. Peyton Ramsey threw for 130 yards on 11-of-18 passing and ran for another 26 yards, and Isaiah Bowser had 25 carries for 85 yards for the Wildcats.

Spencer Petras threw all three of his interceptions in the second half, the last one on a tipped ball that linebacker Blake Gallagher picked off, allowing Northwestern to go into victory formation.

 

2 arrested in Audubon County

The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office, Friday, reported the arrest on Oct. 24th, of 19-year-old Austin Hulsing, of Carroll. Hulsing was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated- 1st offense. He was released on his own recognizance after appearing before the magistrate.

And, on Oct. 25th, 19-year-old Crew McAlpin, of Exira, was also arrested for OWI/1st offense. McAlpin later posted bond, and was released.

DONALD PETERSON, 90, of Atlantic, died Friday, Oct. 30th, at Atlantic Specialty Care. Memorial services for DONALD PETERSON will be held at a later date. Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic is assisting the family.

His sons – Bennie (Bonnie) Peterson, and Mark (Carol) Peterson

His daughters – Robin Peterson and Ronda (Jim) Butcher.

His sister – Norma Brix

5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Alliant Energy line crews from Iowa and Wisconsin provide Hurricane Zeta mutual assistance in Mississippi

MADISON, Iowa – October 31, 2020 – As the sun started to rise across Iowa and Wisconsin, Saturday, Alliant Energy lineworkers in both states left home to help restore power following Hurricane Zeta. Nearly 200 employees will make their way to Gulfport, Mississippi, where they’ll join mutual aid crews from several other states to help Mississippi Power get the lights back on.  

Alliant Energy is a member of the Edison Electric Institute mutual assistance group which recently provided more than 3,000 nationwide and Canadian crews to assist with power restoration efforts to our customers in Iowa following the August 10 Derecho.     

Hall, Purdy lead No. 23 Iowa State to 52-22 romp over Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Breece Hall matched a career high with 185 yards rushing and two touchdowns, Brock Purdy threw two TD passes and had another score on the ground and No. 23 Iowa State coasted to a 52-22 victory over winless Kansas.

Purdy finished with 239 yards passing and Kene Nwangwu also hit the end zone for the 4-2 Cyclones, who bounced back from a tough loss to No. 6 Oklahoma State by beating the Jayhawks for the sixth straight time. The only bright spot for 0-6 Kansas came on a 100-yard kickoff return by Kenny Logan in the second half.

 

Famed bonobo, resident of Des Moines, turns 40

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Kanzi, who is almost certainly the world’s most famous bonobo, is celebrating a milestone birthday. The Des Moines Register reports that Kanzi turned 40 on Wednesday. He resides at a research center in Des Moines. Kanzi can use abstract symbols to communicate with people, and understands some spoken words.

He has played piano with Paul McCartney, interacted with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Bonobos are closely related to chimpanzees and are found in the wild only in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa. Genetically, they are among humans’ closest relatives.

Missing Person Alert: Mackenzie Lyons

ADEL, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Public Safety, Saturday (today) says a Dallas County teen was reported missing Friday to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say 15-year-old Mackenzie Lyons was last seen at a residence southeast of Adel around 1:50 p.m. on October 30th, when she got into a black/dark blue mid-2000 four-door Honda Accord. Mackenzie is on prescription meds that are not currently in her possession.
