No injuries were reported following a rollover accident Thursday morning, in Union County. The Sheriff’s Office reports a 2010 Chevy pickup driven by 21-year-old Matthew J. Lamaak, of Afton, was traveling west on 205th Street at around 5:52-a.m., when Lamaak swerved to miss a deer that had entered the roadway. When the rear tire of the pickup dropped-off the shoulder, Lamaak lost control of the vehicle, which rolled into the ditch. The pickup was considered to be a total loss (Value $15,000).

Both Matthew and his passengers, 24-year-old Cody Lamaak, of Afton, were transported by their father to their residence.

Police in Red Oak have arrested a man wanted on a valid Omaha Police Department warrant for Assault by Strangulation. Authorities say 37-year-old Adam Chandler Orr, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 3:37-a.m. Friday (today). Orr was transported to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center, where he was being held without bond, pending extradition to Nebraska.

(Radio Iowa) – A memorial service will be held later this (Friday) morning in Omaha for the Iowa native who was killed last month in a suicide bombing at the Kabul airport. Marine Corporal Daegan Page grew up in Red Oak and Omaha. U.S. Senator Joni Ernst delivered a nine-minute speech in the senate this week in his honor.

“Let it not be forgotten that thousands of other lives were rescued from pending doom because of the bravery of Daegan and the 12 other service members who lost their lives that day while standing guard to ensure the safe passage of others out of Afghanistan,” she said. Ernst, who is from Red Oak, says she grew up with Page’s family. “The wounds of war, obviously, aren’t just borne by the warrior. It is the family of the fallen who will carry these scars for a lifetime,” Ernst says. “The hole left by the loss of Daegan can never, ever be filled.”

Page graduated from Millard South High School in Omaha in 2016.  “Daegan was always a dedicated team member. It didn’t matter what it was, but he was dedicated according to his former hockey teammates who together won the Nebraska state championship tournament,” Ernst says. “Omaha’s hockey community is fittingly paying tribute to Daegan by placing hockey sticks on their porches in his memory.”

A visitation was held last (Thursday) night at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Omaha and that’s where today’s (Friday’s) funeral for Page will be held, starting at 10 a.m. The family’s tribute page on Facebook indicates the main sanctuary will be reserved for family and friends. The service will be broadcast on Omaha television stations.

(Radio Iowa) – The proposed plan for reconfiguring Iowa’s legislative districts pairs up dozens of lawmakers . The non-partisan Iowa Legislative Services Agency released what’s called redistricting “Plan 1” Thursday. It appears as many as 61 current members of the Iowa General Assembly live in a proposed district where at least one other legislator lives. An initial count indicates 24 senators would have to decide whether to move, retire or run against another senator and 37 state representatives would face same predicament. That is, if the redistricting plan is approved.

As reported Thursday, the proposed congressional maps show a sprawling, 44-county fourth district. The third district includes the Des Moines metro and fans out into a triangle, with 7 counties on the Iowa/Missouri border. The second district goes from northeast Iowa, curves around to include Ames and stretches down to Ottumwa and Fairfield. The first congressional district would be the smallest, geographically, including the cities of Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport, Burlington and Fort Madison.

None of the four Iowans who currently represent the state in the U.S. House would have to move, as none are paired up in one of the proposed districts.

(Unless otherwise listed, Mayoral terms are for 2 years, and council seats are for 4-years. Incumbents are incumbents are noted with I).
