The 18th ranked Iowa State women are on the road Wednesday night in Big 12 play to take on TCU. The Cyclones are 5-2 in the league race while the Horned Frogs are 0-7.

With center Stephanie Soares out for the season with a knee injury the Cyclones have gone smaller and Fennelly us still using different combinations.
(Radio Iowa) – Former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad is the new leader of the Des Moines based foundation that awards the annual “World Food Prize.” “I don’t intend to do this for a long time,” Branstad says, “but I intend to do it, say, at least for a year.” In October of each year the foundation presents the World Food Prize and it’s 250-thousand dollar award to people at the forefront of efforts to improve the quality, quantity and availability of food.
“I’ve seen all the international leaders who have received this award,” Branstad says. Branstad, who served as U-S Ambassador to China, was governor when Des Moines businessman John Ruan donated the seed money for the World Food Prize and its headquarters in Des Moines. Norman Borlaug, the Cresco native who won the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for his research that developed high-yielding wheat, took the lead in creating the World Food Prize in 1986.
“I knew both John Ruan and Norman Borlaug very well. I have the greatest respect for what they did and I want to maintain that legacy,” Branstad says. “Also, I’m a farm kid, from Iowa, and I want Iowa to be recognized as the local for this Nobel like prize for food and agriculture.”
Branstad, who is 76, is America’s longest serving governor. He was U.S. Ambassador to China from mid-2017 to the fall of 2020. As president of the World Food Prize, Branstad will be a lead fundraiser and host of the annual World Food Prize symposium. The event attracts global leaders in research, government and commerce to Des Moines for discussions about advances in food production and food security.
Barbara Stinson, who had 30 years of experience in environmental policy and business management, stepped down last week after three years as president of the World Food Prize.

Riverside outscored Audubon 21-9 in the third quarter and controlled the game in a 60-40 win at Audubon on Tuesday night.The Bulldogs opened the game on a 7-0 run to set the tone early and would never trail in the game. Kyler Rieken was part of that early spark and he talked about what they were doing well.
Grady Jeppesen had a monster game for the Bulldogs with 36 points, shooting the ball well throughout the night. Ayden Salais added 11 points and Rieken finished with 8. Rieken said it was a great team effort.
Riverside improved to 5-11 on the season and avenge a buzzer-beating loss to the Wheelers earlier in the season. Next up for the Bulldogs is a home tilt with East Mills on Friday.
Audubon was led by 19 points from Edward Miller. The Wheelers drop to 5-12 on the year and will head to Underwood for their next game on Friday.
The Audubon girls basketball team had been searching for another win for long stretch and got one at home on Tuesday night over Riverside 45-32. The Wheelers opened the game up on a 7-0 run and only trailed briefly early in the second quarter on their way to their second win of the year.
Audrey Jensen was big with 3 triples in the second half, finishing with a game high 14 points. Sienna Albertsen added 10 points and Madison Steckler finished with 8. Audubon head coach Darran Miller thought they played their best game of the year.
The Wheelers ran a high ball-screen offense much of the night and their patience with that set payed off.
The Wheelers improved to 2-15 and will next up head to Underwood on Friday.
Riverside was led by 7 points from Ayla Richardson as the Bulldogs struggled to make shots throughout the contest. The Lady Dawgs fall to 6-11 on the season and will host East Mills on Friday.
(Washington, Iowa) – Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Safety report Jaron Rosien, the Mayor of Washington (Iowa), turned himself-in this (Tuesday) afternoon. Rosien was wanted by Washington County Law Enforcement authorities on criminal charge of Sex Abuse 3rd Degree (Class C Felony).
The charges are a result of an investigation into an incident that allegedly took place January 8th. On January 11th, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) conducted an interview with a 27-year-old male who alleged he was sexually abused by Rosien at a bar on January 8th. Iowa DCI obtained a search warrant for the internal security surveillance footage of the bar on January 12th.
Investigators say footage from the bar shows an individual believed to be Rosien approaching the victim at approximately 1:39 am. Footage shows the individual making sexual contact multiple times with the victim. According to the criminal complaint, Rosien told officials he had behaved “flirtatiously” with an individual matching the victim’s description, but that he could not recall specific incidents due to his own level of intoxication. 
Rosien has served the city of Washington since 2014, first as a council member from 2014-2018 and as Mayor from 2018 to present. He released the following statement in response to the allegations:
“I take these allegations very seriously. I also take this job, its duties, and those that rely on me to complete them, very seriously. For this reason I will respectfully step back from the formal role in order to focus on what is required. During this time I think of and wish to thank my family, friends, and community for their support.”
Millie Younquist will step in to carry the duties of mayor during this time.
The investigation into this matter was conducted by Agents within the Major Crime Unit of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation; assisted by the Office of the Washington County Attorney and the Office of the Iowa Attorney General – Area Prosecutions Division.

On Friday, January 20, Governor Kim Reynolds signed an extension of the proclamation relating to the weight limits and transportation of grain, fertilizer, and manure.
The Harvest Proclamation is effective immediately and expires February 19, 2023. The proclamation allows vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer (dry, liquid, and gas), and manure (dry and liquid) to be overweight (not exceeding 90,000 pounds gross weight) without a permit for the duration of this proclamation.
The proclamation applies to loads transported on all highways within Iowa (excluding the interstate system) and those which do not exceed a maximum of 90,000 pounds gross weight, do not exceed the maximum axle weight limit determined under the non-primary highway maximum gross weight table in Iowa Code § 321.463 (6) (b), by more than 12.5 percent, do not exceed the legal maximum axle weight limit of 20,000 pounds, and comply with posted limits on roads and bridges.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Fifth-year senior Spencer Lee has been named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office. It is Lee’s second honor this season and the sixth of his career.
The Murrysville, Pennsylvania, native earned the distinction after posting back-to-back falls in dual wins over No. 11 Nebraska and No. 16 Wisconsin. Lee pinned the Huskers’ third-ranked Liam Cronin in 38 seconds and No. 4 Eric Barnett in 4:38.
The falls were Lee’s fifth and sixth consecutive pins this season – a career long streak. His last four falls have come against wrestlers ranked in the top 10 nationally. Lee’s 38-second pin over Cronin was tied for the third-fastest of his collegiate career and it was his 10th career fall in under one minute and 27th first-period fall.
Lee is 10-0 with 10 bonus-point victories this season and he is currently riding a 48-match winning streak dating back to the 2019 season. It is the ninth-longest streak in program history.
Lee was previously named the Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 11. He also earned the distinction once during the 2017-18 season, twice during the 2020-21 campaign and once last season.
Iowa has had three weekly honorees this season as Cobe Siebrecht was named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 30.
The second-ranked Hawkeyes return to action Friday, traveling to Happy Valley to face top-ranked Penn State at 7:30 p.m. (CT) from the Bryce Jordan Center. The dual will be televised live on BTN.
