February 18th, 2014 by Ric Hanson

The CAM School Board met Monday evening in Anita, and set April 14th at 6:30-p.m. as the date and time for a public hearing on the Early Start date for the 2014-2015 School Year. Board Secretary/Business Manager Linda Edwards said the Board will also hold a hearing and discuss the 2014-2015 budget during the same meeting.

Edwards said the Board also approved renewal of a contract with Richard Strittmatter as the Driver’s Education Instructor, along with a Five-dollar increase in the  fee he’s paid, which brings his fee to $200 for the Summer. The driver’s education fee for students remains unchanged from last year, at $250 per student, or $195 for those in the Free and Reduced Program.

In other business, CAM School Board approved a 2015 student trip (for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors) to Washington, D.C. The next step is for sponsors to gather information and prices from a tour company. If the price is affordable, that may include a side trip to New York City. And, the Board approved the retirement of Middle School English Teacher Jan Waddell and North Elementary teacher Gabe Baughman.

  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon rubbed sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme

In a large bowl, combine the egg, oats, salt and pepper.  Crumble turkey over mixture and mix well.  Pat into a 12″ x 9″ rectangle on a piece of heavy-duty foil; set aside.

In a large sauce pan saute onion and celery in butter until tender.  Remove from the heat.  Stir in water, sage and thyme.  Add stuffing; stir until well coated.  Spoon over turkey to within one inch of edges.  Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a short side and peeling away foil while rolling.

Place loaf, seam side down, in a greased 9″ x 5″ loaf pan.  Place bacon strips over top.  Bake, uncovered, at 325 degrees for 60-70 minutes or until meat is no longer pink and a meat thermometer reads 165 degrees.

Iowa’s Bob Feller Museum fading financially

Sports

February 18th, 2014 by Ric Hanson

VAN METER, Iowa (AP) – The Bob Feller Museum is scheduled to reopen on April 5, but financial troubles are threatening its survival in his central Iowa hometown of Van Meter. The lack of money forced museum board members to close it on Jan. 3. It opened in 1995 to honor the Hall of Fame pitcher but has faltered since his death on Dec. 15, 2010.

Museum board member Bob DiBiasio told The Des Moines Register that Feller “was the engine that powered that museum.” The museum is working with the city of Van Meter and the Cleveland Indians to develop options.

* STORM TOTAL SNOW/ICE ACCUMULATIONS…3 TO 7 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED. MINOR ICE ACCUMULATIONS MAY OCCUR.

* WINDS/VISIBILITY…THE WIND WILL BE LIGHT INITIALLY WITH THIS SYSTEM AS THE PRECIPITATION CHANGES TO SNOW. THE WIND WILL QUICKLY INTENSIFY AS IT BECOMES NORTHWEST AT 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 50 MPH POSSIBLE THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
