A six session pitching clinic sponsored by the Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund wrapped up March 29. Zach McCool, Manager and Baseball Director at MVP Sports in Des Moines, coached the clinic aimed at 3rd through 9th grade boys.
McCool, a 2007 West Delaware High School and 2011 University of Iowa graduate, earned a long list of academic and athletic achievements during his high school and college careers. Just a few of McCool’s baseball accomplishments include one West Delaware Offensive and two Defensive MVP awards, three 1st Team WA Mac All-Conference infielder selections, two 1st team and one 2nd team IHSBCA All-District team selections, two 1st Team IHSBCA 3A All-State Team 2nd baseman recognitions, an Iowa High School Baseball All-Star Series selection, one 1st team and one 2nd team Iowa Newspaper Association All-State Infielder listing, and a Collegiate Baseball Pre-Season All American listing. His success continued in college where he holds three school records in addition to being honored as an All-Big Ten 3rd baseman.
“The Atlantic Little League has been working hard to increase participation. Bringing in someone as experienced and talented as Zach to work with some of the kids is just something the Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund can do to support that effort,” said Melanie Petty, Fund Representative. “Zach really interacted with the kids. It was fun to watch.”
To date, over $100,000 has been given back to the community in Frederickson’s memory. The Fund’s only fundraiser, the annual T-Fred Memorial Golf Tournament, will be held Saturday, August 8 at Atlantic’s Nishna Hills Golf Course. Organizers invite anyone interested in the Fund or its tournament to follow local media or like the Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund on Facebook for more information.

STORM LAKE, Iowa (AP) – A 30-year-old northwest Iowa woman who posed as a nurse so she could get prescription drugs has been sentenced to prison. The Sioux City Journal reports that Kayleen Stallman, formerly Kayleen Leedahl, was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in prison. She’d pleaded guilty to three counts of felony obtaining or attempting to obtain a prescription drug by deceit. She also pleaded guilty to five misdemeanor counts of the same charge.
Police and court documents state she posed as a nurse over nearly four months in 2013 and used a doctor’s information to get the medications from a Storm lake pharmacy.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – A new report suggests slow economic growth is ahead for nine Midwestern and Plains states. The survey report issued Wednesday says the overall Mid-America Business Conditions Index dropped to 51.4 in March from 57 in February. The January figure was 54.8.
Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the survey, and he says manufacturers of nondurable goods reported that sales, production and employment have weakened over the past several months. The survey results from supply managers are compiled into a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100. Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests economic growth, while a score below that suggests decline.
The survey covers Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
