UNI falls to Illinois State

Sports

October 9th, 2022 by admin

(UNIpanthers.com) UNI was able to drive into Illinois State territory in the final minute of play, but was unable to complete the comeback as the Panthers fell to the Redbirds, 23-21 in the UNI-Dome on Saturday in Missouri Valley Football Conference play.

Illinois State notched a 41-yard field goal to open the second half as the UNI defense struggled to slow down the Redbird offense. The Panthers used their second possession of the second half to climb back into the game starting at their own 9-yard line, driving down the field to score on a 6-yard rushing touchdown by Sam Schnee early in the fourth quarter. UNI was able to put together one final possession in the final 70 seconds, but was unable to score.

The Panthers return to action next Saturday, Oct. 15 as they host the Utah Tech Trailblazers in non-conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT at the UNI-Dome

Bad offense plagues Iowa State and Iowa

Sports

October 9th, 2022 by admin

Bad offense is unraveling the football season at Iowa State and Iowa and neither team reached the end zone in a loss over the weekend. ISU only managed three field goals in a 10-9 loss to Kansas State. The Cyclones are 0-3 in the Big 12 and for the third straight game the running game was not a factor.

That’s ISU coach Matt Campbell. Jace Gilbert’s three field goals came a week after he missed three in a loss at Kansas.

Campbell on trying to fix the offense.

The Cyclones are 3-3 overall and visit Texas this week.
…………….
Iowa’s offense continues to flounder and the Hawkeyes are now 3-3 after an embarrassing 9-6 loss at Illinois, a game in which the Hawkeyes parlayed three Illini turnovers into three points.

That’s Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz. As has so often been the case this season the offensive line was over-matched by the Illinois defensive line.

The Hawkeyes are off this week before visiting second ranked Ohio State.
