Griswold man arrested on drug charges in Adams County

(Corning, Iowa) – A man from Griswold was arrested Saturday on drug charges, in Adams County. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports 36-year-old Carl Daniel was arrested after a probable cause search of his vehicle was enacted, following a traffic stop near the intersection of Dogwood Avenue and Highway 34, in Corning. Inside the vehicle, deputies found 23 grams of methamphetamine.

Carl Daniel faces charges that include Possession of a Controlled Substance/3rd offense – Meth; Poss. with the intent to deliver over 7 grams; Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, and Poss. of Drug Paraphernalia. He was being held in the Adams County Jail on $35,300 bond.

Fuel pump struck in Afton, driver cited

(Afton, Iowa) – An SUV popped out of gear Sunday evening in Afton, and struck a gas pump, causing $10,000 damage. The Union County Sheriff’s Office reports no one was injured when the 1996 Ford Explorer backed out of a parking stall in the Afton Casey’s Store parking lot, rolled westward and into the middle gas pumps, causing disabling damage to the pump. The accident happened at around 6:50-p.m., as the vehicle’s driver, 37-year-old Travis J. Klos, of Afton, was out of the SUV.

The Ford sustained $3,000 damage but was able to be driven away. Klos was cited for Failure to Provide Proof of (insurance).

(Update) “Operation Blessing has begun in Page County

(Clarinda, Iowa) – As a reminder to our report on November 3rd, Page County Sheriff Lyle Palmer says the Sheriff’s Department’s “Operation Blessing” is underway. The Sheriff’s Department officially began taking requests yesterday (Saturday, Nov. 12), and continuing through Dec. 10th, for children who are in need of a gift. “Operation Blessing” strives to make sure every child in the rural areas of the County receives a Christmas gift.

The program covers children from birth to age 14, who reside in the communities of Shambaugh, Braddyville, College Springs, Yorktown, Coin, Blanchard, and Northboro as well as the rural areas, of Page County. The child must be a resident of the aforementioned communities, or rural Page County. The requests must come from a parent or guardian of the child and can be called into the Page County Sheriff’s Office at 712-542-5193, or reported in person by the parent or guardian at the Page County Sheriff’s Office located at 323 N 15th Street in Clarinda, IA. Each child will be given a first and second choice. It is suggested that a toy and clothing be requested.

Anyone wishing to donate money to the Page County Sheriff’s Office Operation Blessing program can either stop by the Page County Sheriff’s Office or mail the monetary donation to the Page County Sheriff’s Office at 323 North 15th Clarinda, Iowa, 51632. Monetary donations are taken year-round at the Office. The Page County Reserve Program started Operation Blessing in the mid 1980’s to ensure that every child in the rural areas of Page County had the opportunity to receive a gift at Christmas. It has continued every year since for almost 40 years. In these times, the program is adapting. Department deputies and staff will be delivering gifts just prior to Christmas Eve.

Red Oak man arrested arrested on a warrant, Saturday

(Red Oak, Iowa) — Police in Red Oak report a man was arrested Saturday afternoon, on a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department warrant. Authorities say 47-year-old Terry J. Aherns, of Red Oak, was arrested at around 2:24-p.m., on a warrant for Failure to Appear, on the charge of driving while suspended.

Aherns was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and is being held on $1000 cash only bond.

Iowa State let’s another slip away at Oklahoma State

Iowa State lost a 14-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter and fell 20-14 to Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Saturday. Spencer Sanders came on to play in the fourth quarter and sparked the Oklahoma State Offense. He threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Nixon with 9:18 left to give Okie State the lead. The Cowboys got a 40 yard field goal from Tanner Brown to provide the final margin.

Iowa State struggled with ball security throughout the game, turning the ball over a total of five times. The Cyclones outgained the Cowboys 333-244 yards but the giveaways proved too costly.

Iowa State’s last drive got deep in Cowboy territory but Hunter Dekkers was sacked on 4th down to end the game.

Iowa State falls to 4-6 on the season and will head back home to host Texas Tech next Saturday. Oklahoma State improved to 7-3.

Defense leads Iowa past Wisconsin

Cooper DeJean was a big catalyst in Iowa’s 24-10 win over Wisconsin on Saturday in Iowa City. DeJean took an interception back 32-yards for a touchdown and helped set up another score with a 41-yard punt return.

Iowa won the game with just 146 yards of offense and the Iowa defense forced 3 Wisconsin turnovers on the day.

The Hawkeyes improved to 6-4 on the season and reach bowl eligibility, Iowa now controls their own fate in the Big Ten West.

Next up for Iowa is a road trip to Minnesota next week.

Drake sneaks by Valpo

Drake grabbed a big 27-24 win over Butler at Drake Stadium in Des Moines on Saturday. Luke Williams kicked a 22-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to halt Butler’s five game winning streak.

Luke Bailey completed 15 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown with 2 interceptions. It was a good back and forth game with Drake leading 17-7 at the end fo the first and 24-14 at halftime. Butler tied the game with 4:52 left on a 23-yard Luka Zurak field goal.

Drake improved to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play. Butler falls to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the PFL.

Next up for Drake is a road trip to Valporaiso next Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

Saturday, November 12

Williamsburg 31, Wahlert Catholic, Dubuque 7

Williamsburg out-gained Wahlert Catholic 412 yards to 229 yards on offense and picked up the dominating win. Carson Huedepohl went 10-13 passsing fro 207 yards and two touchdowns with 1 interception. Derek Weisskopf hauled in 8 of those passes with 164 yards and 2 touchdowns. Williamsburg improved to 12-0. Wahlert Catholic ends the year at 9-3.

Central Lyon/George-Little Rock 37, OABCIG 14

Central Lyon/George-Little Rock scored the first 23 points of the game and rolled to the 2A championship game with the win over OABCIG. The Lions piled up 472 yards of offense led by 284 yards and three scores rushing from Zach Lutmer. The Lions advance to the title game with a mark of 12-0. OABCIG ends the season at 10-2.

CLASS 3A

Saturday, November 12

Harlan 49, ADM 35

The Harlan Cyclones will return to the Class 3A title game after pulling out a win over ADM for the second time this season. The Cyclones outscored the Tigers 14-0 in the third quarter to make the difference. Aidan Hall had a monster game with 240 yards rushing with 4 touchdowns to go along with 74 yards receiving and another score. Both teams were over 440 yards of offense in the game. Harlan improves to 11-1 and will defend their title next Saturday. ADM ends the season at 10-2 with both losses to the Cyclones.

Mount Vernon 14, Humboldt 6

Mount Vernon slugged their way to the 3A championship with a 14-6 win over Humboldt. Joey Rhomberg scored on a 4-yard run with 11:55 left to give Mount Vernon a 14-3 lead at that point. Henry Ryan had 103 yards on the ground to lead the Mustangs. Mount Vernon heads to the championship with a 12-0 record. Humboldt ends the year at 10-2.
