Frederickson Fund donates books to local schools

The Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund made its annual book donation to both Washington Elementary and Schuler Elementary.

Each year the fund donates approximately $1000.00 to help the schools fulfill their wish list for new released books that the kids will enjoy. Reading was always a big part of Trevor’s life so we hope that by keeping the libraries full of current books others will also become avid readers.

Traffic stop in Page County results in an arrest

An equipment violation that caught the eye of a Page County Sheriff’s Deputy resulted in an arrest, Wednesday. The Page County Sheriff’s Office reports a deputy pulled over a pickup truck at around 7:20-p.m. near 310th and E Avenue, near Northboro. During the traffic stop, it was discovered that the driver, 25-year old Robert Andrew Hall, of rural Coin, was driving under suspension.

Hall was taken into custody and brought to the Page County Jail. He later posted a $300 bond, and was released.

Clarinda Police Busy Lately Making Drug Arrests

Clarinda Police Chief Keith Brothers reports his officers have arrested two people on drug charges. On Wednesday (May 14th), 40-year old Victor Bruce Ingram, of Shenandoah, was arrested for felony delivery of methamphetamine and failure to affix a drug tax stamp. And, on Friday, May 9th, Clarinda Police arrested 37-year old Jason Charles Allison,  of Clarinda, for felony delivery of methamphetamine and failure to affix a drug tax stamp.

Brothers says the incidents are not related. Both Allison and Ingram were transported to the Page County Jail at the time of their arrests and booked in pending review of the cases by the Page County Attorney’s Office regarding the filing of formal charges.

The 2014 Atlantic High School graduation ceremony will be broadcast live on KJAN TV this Sunday, May 18.  We will be streaming a live video feed to viewers around the world on KJAN TV.  If you can’t make it to the ceremony, just go to the TV page at KJAN.com on Sunday to watch it live.  The ceremony begins at 2:00 pm and we will begin live streaming a few minutes prior.  ENJOY & CONGRATULATIONS  to the 2014 graduates!

Exira-EHK Super Board to meet this evening

Members of the Exira-Elk Horn Kimballton “Super Board” of Education will meet this (Thursday) evening at the High School, in Elk Horn. The meeting begins at 7-p.m. in the Family and Consumer Science Room. During the session, the combined Board will act on approving contracts for: Pre-K teachers at EHK and Elk Horn; 1st grade; Middle School Math, and Kindergarten at EHK.

The Board will also discuss and act on approving several matters, including: A revised calendar and fees for 2014-2015; A continued contract with Iowa Western Community College for concurrent enrollment classes; A New Master Contract with Teachers; Salary increases for Support Staff, and the purchase of a new school bus.

DARLE LAVERNE PEDERSEN, 98, of Harlan, died Tue., May 13th, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. Funeral services for DARLE PEDERSEN will be held 10:30-a.m. Fri., May 15th, at the 1st Baptist Church in Harlan. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-to 9-pm today (Thursday), with the family greeting friends from 6-to 8-pm.

Burial will be in the Bowman’s Grove Cemetery in Harlan.

DARLE PEDERSEN is survived by:

Her daughters – Sandy (Randy) Conrad, of Harlan, & Judy Klindt & husband Mike Bridgman, of Clermont, FL.

Her son – Raymon (Patti) Pedersen, of Pewaukee, WI.

Her brother – Lynn (Grace) McCord, of Harlan.

11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

MARLENE (SCHABEN) KLINGENBORG, 76, of Council Bluffs, died Tue., May 13th, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. A Mass of Christian Burial service for MARLENE KLINGENBORG will be held 11-a.m. Fri., May 16th, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

A Vigil service will be held at the funeral home this (Thursday) evening at 7 o’clock, with visitation at the funeral home from 5-to 9-pm today (Thursday). The family will greet friends at the funeral home this evening, from 6-to 8-pm.

Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery at Defiance.

MARLENE (SCHABEN) KLINGENBORG is survived by:

Her daughter – Carol Schaben, of Norwalk.

Her sons – Dean (Jamie) Schaben, of Springdale, AR.; Bryan (Lori) Schaben, of Kansas City, Mo.;David Schaben, of Kimballton; Rodney (Brenda) Schaben, of Council Bluffs; and Roger Schaben, of Clarinda.

Her step-daughters: Patti Humpal, of Cedar Falls; Teresa (Kelly) Snyder, of Marathon, IA; and Jolene (Bruce) Hiott, of San Antonio, TX.

Her sisters – Marilyn Tague, and Cheryle (Keith) Svendsen, of Loveland, CO.

Her brother – Larry Gearhart & his significant other Barbra, of Hot Springs, AR.
