The Union County Sheriff’s Office reports three, injury accidents occurred over the past few days, and one vehicle was reported stolen. Sunday, night, a Lenox resident reported sometime over the past few days, someone stolen his red, 2011 Dodge Charger with Iowa license plate BQE 596/ The car was valued at $15,000.

Two accidents were reported Sunday, in Union County. At around 1:30-p.m., 88-year old Louis Lumbard, of Creston, was traveling north on the High and Dry Road when he swerved to miss a coyote. His 1997 Chevy pickup entered the ditch and continued to travel north in the ditch and across a creek before coming into contact with a farm entrance. The pickup then rolled over and came to rest on its wheels, facing south. Damage was estimated at $5,000. Lumbard was transported by ambulance to the Greater Regional Medical Center (GRMC) in Creston, for treatment of unknown/possible injuries.

Sheriff’s officials say at around 9:05-a.m. Sunday, a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup driven by 27-year old Jesse Jones, of Creston, was traveling west on 245th Street, when the vehicle went out of control due to ice on the road. The pickup spun around, entered the ditch on the north side of the road and flipped over, coming to rest on its top. Jones was transported by ambulance to GRMC for treatment of unknown/possible injuries. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

And, at around Noon Thursday, 59-year old Karen Bean, of Afton, was injured when the 2012 Chevy SUV she was driving went out of control on Rea Road, after she hit the brakes to avoid striking a dog that appeared on a curve. The vehicle skidded onto the gravel shoulder and crossed over the road before rolling into the east ditch and landing on its top. Bean was transported by Medic 1 to GRMC for treatment of possible/unknown injuries. Damage from the accident amounted to $7,100.

Glenwood man arrested Saturday

The Glenwood Police Department reports one person was arrested over the weekend. 44-year old Ray Knipe, of Glenwood, was arrested Saturday, for Public Intoxication. His bond was set at $1000.

MARY ANN KLOEWER, 85, of Columbus, NE, died Friday, Dec. 9th, at home. A Mass of Christian Burial for MARY ANN KLOEWER will be held 11-a.m. Wed., Dec. 14th, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, in Defiance. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Friends may cal at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance, from 9-a.m. until 11-a.m., Wednesday.

Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery at Defiance.

MARY ANN KLOEWER is survived by:

Her daughter – Laurie Ann (Derald) Zavodsky, of Columbus, NE

Her son – Steve (Kim) Kloewer, of Lucas, IA.

Her sister – Loretta Zegers, of Petersburg, NE.

Cass County Conference Board to meet Tuesday evening

(Update 3-p.m.: Meeting postponed until January)

Members of the Cass County Conference Board are set to meet Tuesday evening in the basement meeting room at the Cass County Courthouse. During the 5-p.m. session, the Board will review the Assessor’s budget. Cass County Assessor Brenda Nelson says they don’t have the taxable valuations yet or what the County’s insurance costs will be, but she added that it all looks pretty similar to last years budget.  The Board will hold two more meetings on the budget in January and in February or March.

The Conference Board consists of the members of the Board of Supervisors, the Mayors of all the incorporated cities, and a member of each school district within its jurisdiction.

The Trojans were led in the tourney by Zac Stork who finished 4th at 195. Carter Cox was 5th at 120. John McConkey came in 5th at 285. Chase McLaren was 6th at 126. Kole Hansen finished 7th at 116. Drake Roller was 7th at 170.

Glenwood had three top-3 place winners. Anthony Sherry was 2nd at 182. Isaac Bales was 3rd at 195 and Caleb Sanders was 3rd at 285.  Zach Haggstrom was fourth for the Rams at 220.

Underwood’s Alex Thomsen won the 126 pound final and was named one of the two Outstanding Wrestlers at the tournament.

Jim Field visits with CAM HS Principal Dominic Giegrich, pianist Andres Cosano Molleja and Mariah Murphy about the “Miracles in the Making” Christmas benefit concert on December 22 at 7:00 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic.  It is a benefit for RETT syndrome and a fee will offering will be taken.
