Iowa State losing front court player Ray Kasongo to transfer

May 16th, 2017 by Ric Hanson

AMES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa State’s Ray Kasongo is leaving the program without ever playing a game for the Cyclones. Iowa State coach Steve Prohm said Tuesday that he and the 6-foot-9 Kasongo agreed that it would be best if the Canadian finished his career at another school. The move came just one day after the Cyclones announced that former Princeton big man Hans Brace will join them next season as a graduate transfer.

Kasongo signed with Tennessee after a year of junior college, but he left for Ames after playing sparingly in 2015-16. He sat out last season under NCAA transfer rules. Iowa State still has two open scholarships for next season.

Fort Atkinson gets hit hard by hail

News, Weather

May 16th, 2017 by Ric Hanson

The southern part of Winneshiek county suffered heavy storm damage after a round of severe weather went through the area Monday night. Winneshiek county emergency management coordinator Sean Snyder says the most localized damage came in the southwestern portion of the county. Large hail did a lot of damage. “In Fort Atkinson the homes on the west side of people’s properties are completely shredded. Kind of looks like Swiss cheese in a way — it’s heavily damaged,” Snyder says.

Wind and hail damage was reported in Calmar and Ossian as well. Snyder says officials from the National Weather service office in La Crosse, Wisconsin will be on the scene today. He says they’ll do an assessment and match the damage with the models they produced to confirm how accurate their models were and can maybe explain the type of storm that hit.

The National Weather Service had issues a tornado warning for the area around 7 p-m.
