(Corning, Iowa) – The Adams Sheriff’s Office today (Thursday), released information about two arrests and one accident that took place in September. Authorities say on Sept. 26th, Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident in the 1400 block of 260th Street, in Nodaway. Upon further investigation, a 17-year-old male received a juvenile referral for being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol. The teen was cleared by EMS personnel and released to the custody of his parents.

On Sept. 24th, Adams County Deputies arrested 43-year-old Benjamen Leroy Kirsch, of Villisca. He was taken into custody at the Montgomery/Adams County line, on three active warrants for Failure to Appear. Kirsch was additionally charged at the Adams County Jail, with Interference with Official Acts. He was held without bond until appearing before the magistrate.

And, on Sept. 17th, Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 34 at Quince Avenue at around 9:53-p.m.  As a result, 38-year-old Angel Valdovinos Rodriguez, of Creston, was arrested on two active warrants for Failure to Appear. He was transported to the Adams/Union County line, and transferred to the custody of Union County Deputies.

(Radio Iowa) – A fourth candidate has announced he intends to compete in the Iowa Democratic Party’s 2022 Primary for U.S. Senate — and the chance to challenge Republican Chuck Grassley’s bid for an eight term. Seventy-one-year-old Bob Krause of Burlington ran unsuccessfully for the party’s Senate nomination in 2010 AND 2016. He’s released a recorded statement on YouTube. “I was eight years old when Grassley was first elected to the Iowa House…and then I saw him move on to the U.S. House and the United States Senate,” Krause said, “and 41 years later I can tell you those 41 years were not good for Iowa and they were not good for the nation.”

Former Iowa Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer of Cedar Rapids, former Crawford County Supervisor Dave Muhlbauer and Glenn Hurst, a doctor from Minden, are the three candidates who announced they’re seeking the spot on the ballot to challenge Grassley next year. Krause says he’s running because he fears Republicans will try to sabotage the 2022 election. “We are in the midst of a gathering storm and this election is about saving our democracy from destruction,” Krause said. “Simply put, I can to be part of the solution.”

Krause announced in 2013 that he would run for governor, but he endorsed another candidate a few months later and did not file the paperwork to have his name on the 2014 primary ballot. In the 1970s, Krause served three terms in the state legislature. In 1978, he ran for state treasurer, losing to the Republican incumbent.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office reports Deputies responded Wednesday to a residence in the 700 block of Iowa Avenue, in College Springs. The call was in reference to  a family disturbance. During the investigation, a resident of the residence, 49-year-old Steven Dean Lundvall, was arrested on a Nodaway County, Missouri warrant for Failure to appear, on original charges of DWI and Resisting / Interfering with Arrest for a Felony.

Lundvall was transported to the Page County Jail and held without bond, pending extradition hearings for transfer to Missouri.

(Atlantic, Iowa) – Atlantic Rising will host their 3rd Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser on Friday, October 15th at the Cass County Community Center. The organization started the event to raise funds for their Christmas Box program. Social Chair Kelsey Beschorner says “This event has been very successful in the past. In 2019, we had 13 teams register and were able to raise over $2,000 for the program. We hope to exceed that this year due to the number of nominations tripling in 2020.”  Beschorner says their goal “Is to have everyone come out to enjoy a fun night while raising money for a project that does so much good for our community.”

The event will include eight rounds of ten questions each. Categories range from math to music to Saturday Night Live and everything in between. There is a prize awarded to the winning team. Teams are also encouraged to create team themes to add to the fun of the evening. A prize is awarded to the best team theme and is chosen by the staff at the Community Center. As an added fundraiser boost, a 50/50 raffle tickets will be available for $5 a ticket or $15 for 4 tickets.

Freshly popped popcorn and a water/coffee station available all night along with the Community Center’s cash bar open for all other beverage needs. Coralville – The Iowa Department of Corrections today (Thursday) said 24-year-old Markez Fox, who was convicted of Assault While Participating in a Johnson County Felony, failed to the Coralville Residential Facility as required, Wednesday. Fox is a Black male, height 5′ 10″, and weighs 190 pounds. He was admitted to the work release facility on 9/15/21.

(Atlantic, Iowa) – Founders of the Lullabye Foundation acknowledge we’re all aware of how much the Covid pandemic has affected most of our society. But despite Covid and its affects on businesses, schools, activities, and even our churches, from early in 2020 through today, Lullabye has still been able to help many children in need and at risk of slipping through the cracks of our society’s social service safety net. The Foundation serves children in both Iowa and Illinois.

Lullabye Board Members coordinate closely with schools, orphanages, Social Service Agencies, Park Districts, etc. who work with kids, identify needs and address those needs.  The non-profit partners with organizations that genuinely want to help kids and make sure the children they serve receive the goods and services needed to help them be the best they can be – without delay. CEO Pastor Sally Meyer says Lullabye has helped children in Iowa, through:

• Support of Groups of Kids associated with the Atlantic, Iowa, Community Schools

Other projects include:

+ Going International/ helping many children through the Malawi Orphan Care Project, by feeding, offering spiritual and educational guidance, and sports activities daily to 800 kids.

+ The construction of a playground for the Still Waters Kids Home, Inc, in the Philippines. Their previous playground had been destroyed in a typhoon. The new playground was received with great joy!

+ A substantial gift to CASA of Champaign County went to serve 380 children in Foster Care county-wide. CASA’s mission is to find these children safe, healthy, and permanent homes.

+ Through a school in northern Illinois Lullabye generously supported a family devastated by a fire which took the lives of two young girls and destroyed all the family’s belongings.

+ In Southwest Iowa, school personnel helped the Foundation assist a high school girl whose family could not afford her extracurricular activities. We helped. She then took part in her activities

+ A guidance counselor in a school in northern Illinois alerted Lullabye to a need for dollars to send a homeless and recently orphaned boy to a Park District-provided Summer Camp.

+ Working with one of the Foundation’s Northern Illinois partner schools, we provided dollars for playground equipment geared toward Special Needs Kids.

+ At present, Pastor Meyer says they are looking into the possibility of working with the Cunningham Children’s Home in Urbana, IL.
