BLAINE ALFRED KEARNEY, 94, of Audubon died Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital.  A private family graveside service for BLAINE KEARNEY will be held at a later date at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland.  Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic is assisting the family.

Brother-in-Law:  Keith Rattenborg of Oakland

2 arrests in Harlan late last week

The Harlan Police Department says two people were arrested on separate charges late last week. On Saturday, 52-year-old Anthony Elwood Rikle, of Harlan, was arrested for Domestic Abuse Assault. And, on June 23rd, 19-year-old Morgan Ann Schwery, of Harlan, was arrested for Possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and prohibited acts.

And, no injuries were reported following a property damage accident in Harlan Monday. Harlan Police say a 2006 Peterbilt semi driven by Jeremiah Sunderman, of Clarinda, was turning south onto Highway 59 from the 2300 block of 23rd Street, when the semi’s trailer hit a stop sign, causing minor damage to the sign.

For those area fans of Ryan Hawkins, the former Northwest Missouri State and Creighton star, you can watch the NBA Summer League on TV.  Ryan will play for the Toronto Raptors during the July 7-17, 2022 league schedule.  NBA TV and ESPN networks will carry the games.  Here is the Raptors schedule: (all times central)

Creston man cited following a property damage accident

(Union County, Iowa) – A man from Creston was cited for Reckless Driving & Leaving the Scene of an accident, Monday night, in Arispe. According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, at around 10:30-p.m., a 2006 Chevy Impala driven by 18-year-old Rory Allen Davis, of Creston, pulled into the driveway of a residence in the 300 block of Forbes Street at a high rate of speed, and collided with a 2016 Chevy Cruze owned by Cody Robertson, of Creston, that was in the driveway. Authorities say Davis was upset for some reason.

After his car struck the other vehicle, Davis left the scene without reporting the incident. When he was located later, Davis admitted to driving too fast, and hitting the Chevy Cruze. The parked car sustained approximately $7,000 damage. Damage to the Impala was estimated at $1,500. No injuries were reported.

Motivated Riley Mulvey eyes expanded role for Iowa

Iowa sophomore Riley Mulvey says he learned what it takes to compete in major college basketball. The native of New York reclassified to start his Iowa career early but played sparingly and appeared in only 17 games. He hopes to provided needed depth in the post next season.

Mulvey says last season was a valuable lesson for him.

Mulvey says the success of last season provides even more motivation.

Mulvey says it was a meeting with the coaches after the season that helped him focus on next season.

Head of John Deere Classic talks impact of LIV Series

The executive director of the John Deere Classic says this week’s LIV Series event will have no impact on the PGA Tournament in the Quad Cities. The Saudi financed LIV Series has signed up several big names and will will compete in the U-S for the first time this week in Portland.

Clair Peterson says the business model of PGA Tournaments is more impactful.

Peterson the John Deere Classic may actually get more attention this week because of the LIV Series event.

The first round of the John Deere Classic is Thursday.
