LAMONT CHRISTENSEN, 58, of Irwin died Saturday, September 24th at home. Funeral services for LAMONT CHRISTENSEN will be held on Wednesday, September 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 27th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Harlan.

LAMONT CHRISTENSEN is survived by:

Mother: Nancy (Andersen) Christensen of Harlan.

Father: LaVon Christensen of Harlan.

Wife: Shelly Christensen of Irwin.

Son: Dustin (Miranda) Christensen of Madrid.

Daughter: Kaitlyn (Martin) McAlister of Coon Rapids.

Brother: Daniel (EAnn) Christensen of Defiance.

Sisters-in-law: Cyndi (Tony) Groshong of Cambridge, NE. Stacy (Terry) Rosonke of Norwalk.

LETA INDERMUHLE, 68, of Shelby died on Friday, September 23rd at her home. Funeral services for LETA INDERMUHLE will be held on Wednesday, September 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Avoca. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Avoca has the arrangements.

Family will greet friends on Wednesday, September 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Church prior to services.

Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.

Husband: Jerry Indermuhle of Shelby.

Son: David (Jessi) Wilson of Council Bluffs.

Pickup hits a house in Atlantic Sunday morning

(Atlantic, Iowa) – One person was taken into custody early Sunday morning in Atlantic, after allegedly stealing a pickup truck and crashing into a home at 1612 Oak Street. According to the Police Department,  28-year-old Nicholas Renner of Atlantic, faces charges that include OWI/1st Offense and Theft in the 2nd Degree.

Authorities report that at 2:18 a.m. Sunday, Cass County Communications dispatched the Atlantic Police Department to a motor vehicle accident at 1612 Oak Street. When officers arrived, they found a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado had struck the residence. An investigation determined Renner allegedly took the pickup from the 1400 block of Linn Street, prior to the accident.

Damage to the home was estimated at $50,000. The pickup sustained approximately $10,000 damage. Additional information was not available. Anyone with information about the incident should call 712-243-3512.

(Authorities note the charges are an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law) 

Drake drops close game to Marist to open PFL play

The Drake Bulldogs came up short against Marist 30-25 to open up Pioneer Football League play. The Red Foxes led 21-10 at halftime but saw that lead slip away in the second half. Drake scored 15 unanswered to lead 25-24 but Marist came up with a game winning drive at the end.

Drake took the lead with a 36-yard field goal from Luke Williams, who was 4-4 on the day, with 3:36 left. Marist answered with a 13-play 80-yard drive to grab the lead back. Amin Woods scored on a six-yard run with 43 seconds left to lift the Red Foxes to the win.

Drake was led by 350 yards passing from Ian Corwin and 132 yards receiving by Brandon Langdok. The Bulldogs outgained the Red Foxes 429-387 in the game but fall just short. The Bulldogs fall to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in the PFL.

Marist improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the PFL.

Next up for Drake will be a trip to Dayton next Saturday for a Noon contest.

UNI rolls past Western Illinois

The UNI Panthers got in the win column on Saturday with a 52-17 win at Western Illinois.

Theo Day had a nice day passing with 260 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Panthers led 17-3 at halftime and added on three scores in the third quarter to pull away. Woo Governor had two interceptions that both were returned for scores in that third quarter barrage. His returns of 49 and 43 yards tied UNI’s single season record for returned scores in a game.

Dom Williams had 69 yards on the ground with one score for the Panthers as well. UNI outgained the Leathernecks 468 to 297 in the game. The Panthers improved to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

Western Illinois falls to 0-4 and 0-1 in the conference.

Next up for UNI is a return to Cedar Falls to kickoff a 4-game homestand next Saturday by hosting Indiana State for a 4:00 p.m. contest.

Iowa State drops first game of the year to Baylor

The Iowa State Cyclones couldn’t overcome a poor third quarter and fell to the Baylor Bears 31-24 on Saturday in Ames. Baylor led 17-14 at halftime after Hunter Dekkers hit Dimitri Stanley for a 24 yard score with :46 left in the half. The Cyclones didn’t carry that momentum over though and failed to score in the third.

Baylor would get the first two scores of the second half to lead 31-14. Iowa State rallied with ten points in the fourth quarter but an onside kick attempt with :55 seconds left was recovered by Baylor to secure the win for the Bears.

Hunter Dekkers went 23-36 passing for 284 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jaylin Noel had 7 catches for 120 yards and Jirehl Brock ran for 77 yards and a score. The Cyclones fall to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12.

Baylor was led by 19-26 passing for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns from quarterback Blake Shapen. Richard Reese had 83 yards and 1 score on the ground. The Bears improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 play.

Next up for Iowa State is a trip to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Jayhawks for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff next Saturday.

Iowa beats Rutgers 27-10

Two early defensive touchdowns propelled Iowa to a 27-10 win at Rutgers on Saturday night. After Rutgers opened the scoring with a field goal, Cooper DeJean picked off a pass and returned it 45-yards for a touchdown to get Iowa on the board. Then in the second quarter Kaevon Merriweather picked up a ball that was knocked out of a receivers hands on a first down catch and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.

Iowa led 17-3 at half and then added a Leshon Williams touchdown run in the third quarter to help seal the game. Williams and Kaleb Johnson each had 64 yards on the ground.

Spencer Petras went 11-17 for 148 yards through the air. Iowa improved to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in Big Ten play.

Rutgers quarterback Evan Simon went 28-49 passing for 300 yards but threw two interceptions. The Scarlet Knights fall to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Next up Iowa hosts Michigan for an 11:00 a.m. kickoff next Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
