Police in Red Oak report 45-year old Mark Douglas Berggren, of Red Oak, was arrested Monday afternoon. Berggren was taken into custody at the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center on a valid Mills County warrant for Violating a court issued No Contact Order. Berggren posted a $300 cash bond, and was released.
ILA L. ROSENBECK, 84, of Guthrie Center, died Sun., May 3rd, at Iowa Methodist Hospital. Funeral services for ILA ROSENBECK will be held 11-a.m. Wed., May 6th, at the 1st United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center has the arrangements.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Ideal weather last week enabled Iowa farmers to make progress planting their corn and soybean crops. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says as of Sunday, farmers had planted 68 percent of the state’s corn crop and 11 percent of the soybean crop. Both figures are better than the five-year average.
The USDA says 84 percent of farmland had adequate topsoil moisture, with 11 percent short and 5 percent in surplus. Farmers reported 82 percent of subsoil moisture was adequate. The state agriculture department says half of Iowa’s corn acreage was planted last week.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Officials say the bird flu virus has been found in four more locations in Iowa, bringing the total number of poultry that must be killed in the state to more than 19 million. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship announced Monday that new cases were reported at an egg-laying operation in Wright County with 2.8 million chickens and at three turkey farms. Two of the turkey farms are in Buena Vista County and one is in Cherokee County.
State officials didn’t release the number of birds at the turkey operations. The addition of the Wright County chicken farm brings the total number of poultry that must be killed to 19.3 million birds. The birds are killed in an effort to halt the spread of the virus.
Council Bluffs police have charged a 39-year-old man with attempted murder after stopping his vehicle and finding him bleeding from stab wounds. Police also charged David Leroy McKee with Burglary in the 1st Degree and Felony Domestic Abuse Assault. McKee was being treated for his wounds at an Omaha hospital, where he was last reported to be in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The incident began Sunday after police received a report from Linda Minard that David McKee had threatened her and his estranged wife, Roberta Francke-McKee. By the time officers arrived, David McKee had broken into the home and tried allegedly tried to choke Robert McKee to death. After the woman grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him, he took off in a pickup truck. Roberta McKee’s injuries were minor, while Linda Minard wasn’t hurt.
VERE ACKER, 83, of Greenfield, died Monday, May 4th, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Graveside services for VERE ACKER will be held 12:30-p.m. Mon., May 11th, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield has the arrangements.

Two people have been arrested on separate charges, in Cass County. The Sheriff’s Office reports 19-year old Angel Nicole Knowles, of Elk Horn, was arrested today (Monday), on a District Court warrant for Probation Violation. Knowles was taken to the Cass County Jail where she remains held on $7,500 bond.
And on Sunday, 56-year old Robert John Rasmussen, of Massena, was arrested on a charge of Driving Under Suspension. Rasmussen was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day on his own recognizance.
The CAM School District’s Board of Education will meet in a Special Session Tuesday evening in the CAM High School Media Center. Shortly after the Board gavels-in the session at 5:30-p.m., they’ll discuss and take action on: Resignations; Approval of the 2015-16 Master Contract, teacher and other contracts, including 2015-16 Support Staff, and Schedule B contracts.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Three wrestlers from the University of Iowa are facing burglary charges following a series of break-ins earlier this year. The Linn County Attorney’s office says wrestlers Ross Lembeck, Seth Gross and Logan Ryan each face two counts of felony third-degree burglary. The trio all face seven counts of misdemeanor third-degree burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and one count of conspiracy to commit an aggravated misdemeanor.
Marion police spokesman Scott Elam says several vehicles were broken into on March 18 in the community 35 miles north of Iowa City. Elam says one of the vehicle’s owners noticed the athletes, who took off running before being arrested. Lembeck, Gross and Ryan were redshirt freshmen last season.
Coach Tom Brands suspended all three wrestlers. He declined comment.
LE MARS, Iowa (AP) – An attorney for a man charged with first-degree murder in the killing of his mother says his client suffers from mental disorders preventing him from understanding the case against him. The Sioux City Journal reports public defendant Billy Oyadare is seeking a hearing to determine if Jonathan Neunaber is competent to stand trial in the death of his mother, 80-year-old Esther Neunaber. Her body was found last July with the body of her husband Donald Neunaber. She was beaten to death. He died of natural causes.
Oyadare says a psychologist has stated 45-year-old Jonathan Neunaber suffers from mental disorders preventing him from appreciating the charges, understanding the proceedings or assisting in his defense. Neunaber was arrested in July. He’s pleaded not guilty.
