Vehicle crashes into Bluffs home, 1 injured

Police in Council Bluffs say one person suffered non-life threatening injuries after a vehicle crashed into a home at around 9:05-p.m., Sunday. Officers were dispatched to 105 Glenview Drive on a single vehicle accident in which a vehicle drove into this residence. Officers arrived on scene and located the passenger of the vehicle and were told by witnesses that the driver (later identified as Andrew J. Smook, of Omaha) fled the scene. Officers secured the passenger (Jim Schafer, of Council Bluffs), and checked 105 Glenview Drive for occupants.

Officers located three occupants, all of whom were not injured. Schafer was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha as a precaution for treatmeant of his injuries, which appeared to be non-life threatening. The city Building Inspector was contacted, upon his arrival he inspected the duplex and found the damage to be only to the window area of the home and not effecting
the support structure.

Officers eventually located Smook at an address in Omaha, and cited him for various traffic offenses and released by Council Bluffs Police. The charges include Exhibition Driving, Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle and Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident.

Cass County Sheriff’s report: drug & theft arrests

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports several arrests took place over the past week. Today (Monday, Nov. 23rd), 22-year old Tyler Alan Kush, of Omaha, was arrested on charges of OWI 1st Offense (Serious) and Possession of Marijuana (Serious). Kush was taken to the Cass County Jail where later released on $1,000 bond.

On Sunday, 29-year old Samuel Lavern Huffman, of Anita, was arrested by Cass County Deputies on an Atlantic Police Department warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Serious), two counts of Prescription Drug Violation (Serious), and Carrying Weapons (Aggravated). Huffman was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released later that day on $2,000 bond.

On Saturday, 56-year old Jeffrey Harold Jensen, of Adel, was arrested in Cass County on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine (Serious) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple). Jensen was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day on his own recognizance. Also arrested Saturday, was 26-year old Brandon Michael Luke, of Anita, who faces charges that include Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) 3rd or Subsequent Offense (D Felony), Driving While Revoked (Serious), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple). Luke was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day on $5,000 bond.

And, on Thursday, Nov. 19th, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year old Michael Edward Flood, of Omaha, on a charge of Theft 2nd Degree (D Felony) for being in possession of a vehicle that was reported stolen in Nebraska. Flood was taken to the Cass County Jail where he remains held on $5,000 bond. Also arrested, was 46-year old Shane William Knapp, of Anita, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense. Knapp was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released the following day on his own recognizance.

ALICE LENGEMAN, 85, of Coon Rapids died Sunday, November 22nd at the Manning Regional Hospital.  Mass of Christian Burial for ALICE LENGEMAN will be held Wednesday, November 25th at 1:00pm at the Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids.  Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Wednesday, November 25th after 12:00pm at the Church prior to services.

Burial will be in the Annunciation Cemetery in Coon Rapids.

ALICE LENGEMAN is survived by:

Children: Diane (Robb) Olson of Columbus Junction, IA.  Dale (Judy) Lengeman of Coon Rapids.

Sister: Darlene Lloyd of Coon Rapids.

Single-vehicle accident in Adair County, Sunday

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports personnel with Stuart Ambulance, Stuart Police and the Adair County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle rollover accident Sunday, at around 6:10-p.m.  The accident happened about three-miles south of Stuart on the “Stuart Road” (Adair County Road P-28) near 130th Street.

Officials say the patient was transported to the Adair Co Hospital, in Greenfield. No other information was immediately released.

Armed robbery in Denison

Police in Denison say an armed robbery took place early this (Monday) morning. The robbery occurred in a parking lot in the 1200 Block of North 26th Street. During the incident, a person described as an American black male in his early to mid 20’s, 5’2″-to 5’4″ tall, slender build wearing dark blue jeans, a dark, zip up black hoodie and a black beanie style stocking hat, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the victim.

No injuries reported after fire guts a home in Guthrie Center

Authorities say no injuries were reported following a fire in Guthrie Center Sunday afternoon that heavily damaged a residence. The Blaze at 104 N. 2nd Street was reported at around 1-p.m.

Fire officials say the house was fully engulfed in smoke flames when crews arrived on the scene soon after they were notified. Firefighters from Panora and Guthrie Center provided mutual aid.

Personnel were on scene for about four hours but couldn’t save the home. The cause of the fire, which destroyed the basement and first floor, was undetermined at last report.

Glenwood man arrested on assault/weapons charge

Police in Glenwood arrested 26-year old Joshua Madsen, of Glenwood, Friday. Madsen was charged with Assault, by Use of/or display of, a weapon, and, unlawful possession of prescription drugs. His bond was set at $3,000. Authorities report also, 26-year old Gary Ewart, of Glenwood, was arrested Sunday, for OWI/1st offense. His bond was set at $1,000.

Drug paraphernalia-related arrest in Red Oak

Police in Red Oak arrested a man on drug charges, Sunday night. 42-year-old Shawn Allen Ponton was arrested at around 10:15-p.m. at the intersection of South Broadway and 3rd Avenue, and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
The man was taken to the Montgomery County jail where he was being held on $1,000 cash bond.
