The Mills County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest Thursday night, of a man from Pottawattamie County, on drug charges. 27-year old Clayton Morris Scott, of Council Bluffs, was arrested in the vicinity of 221st & 225th Streets at around 9:50-p.m., for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His bond was set at $1,300.

TOLEDO, Iowa (AP) — A September trial has been scheduled for a former executive director of the Tama County day care accused of using thousands of its dollars to buy things for herself. Tama County District Court records say written pleas of not guilty were filed Thursday for 46-year-old Kristine Daniel. She’s charged with theft and other crimes. Her trial is set to begin Sept. 24 at the courthouse in Toledo.

The state auditor’s office says auditors have identified nearly $279,000 in improper and unsupported spending, undeposited collections and forgone grant revenue involved in the finances of the day care, Kids’ Corner. The audit covered December 2009 through May 31, 2016, the time period Daniel worked for Kids’ Corner.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports 18-year old Jordyn Lynette-Kay Hill, of Atlantic, turned herself to the jail Tuesday on a Cass County Sheriff’s Office warrant for six counts of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and one count of Theft 3rd Degree. Two minors were also charged in Juvenile Court: a 16 year old male with three counts of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and one count of Theft 4th Degree; and a 17 year old female with six counts of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and Theft 3rd Degree. Hill was booked at the Cass County Jail and later released on $2,000 bond.

Also arrested Tuesday, was a 16 year old male, on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle without Permission, and Possession of Marijuana 1st Offense). The juvenile was taken to Juvenile Detention in Council Bluffs and remained there as of the latest report. On Wednesday, Cass County Deputies arrested 35-year old Nicole Marie Wagner, of Atlantic, on a Pottawattamie County warrant. Wagner was taken into custody and bonded out on the warrant, Thursday. 32-year old Jason George Massman, of Clermont, was arrested Wednesday in Cass County, on a felony Drug Tax Stamp Violation charge, as well as: Possession with Intent to Deliver Tramadol; OWI 2nd Offense; Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug; and Possession of Marijuana 1st Offense. Massman was taken to the Cass County Jail and later released on $10,000 bond.

Thursday, Cass County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 26-year old Destiny Jo Fuller, of Griswold, on a charge of Driving While Barred. Fuller was taken to the Cass County Jail and released today (Friday), on her own recognizance.

The president of a national abortion-rights organization says the Iowa Supreme Court acted “absolutely appropriately” in striking down a 72-hour waiting period for women seeking an abortion. Ilyse Hogue is president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. She told reporters outside of the Iowa Capitol that Friday’s ruling upholds precedent, the rights of Iowa women and their “dignity and respect.”

Hogue says U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley should consider those issues when advancing any U.S. Supreme Court nominee chosen by President Donald Trump to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. Grassley is Iowa’s senior senator and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Hogue has said she believes a pick from a circulated conservative list of possible candidates could eventually overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that upheld a woman’s right to an abortion.

OSAGE, Iowa (AP) — An audit has determined that nearly $6,000 in property taxes and delinquent charges was undeposited or improperly deposited in Mitchell County, where a former clerk pleaded guilty to theft.
The state auditor’s office also said in a news release Friday that a $787 tax payment was improperly diverted to pay a portion of Tracey Mooberry’s taxes in March 2016. Mooberry worked as a clerk in the county treasurer’s office from 2011 until May 2016. She was given a year of probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor misconduct in office. Authorities say the thefts occurred in the last few weeks of her employment. The county attorney has said the money was paid back.

Mooberry was on the Mitchell County Conservation Board and the Osage School Board when the charge was filed. She’s since resigned both posts.
