DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Democrats in Iowa have re-elected Troy Price as chairman of the state party. It’s Price’s second term as state party chairman. Before first being elected last year, Price was part of several Democratic campaigns in Iowa, including those of former President Barack Obama and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in Des Moines say rescue crews have pulled the body of a man from the Des Moines River. Television station KCCI reports that the man’s body was found late Saturday afternoon after an hours-long search.

OSCEOLA, Iowa (AP) — The Clarke County prosecutor has again been arrested. Television station KCCI says outgoing Clark County Attorney Michelle Rivera was arrested Friday on suspicion of operating while intoxicated. Rivera, who lost her re-election bid in November, was arrested in October on suspicion of being drunk on the job in a Clark County courtroom.

WAUKEE, Iowa (AP) — The chief operating officer for Waukee Community School District in central Iowa has turned himself in on charges related to improper spending at the district. Waukee police say 50-year-old Eric Rose turned himself at 7 a.m. Saturday. He’s charged with two counts of solicitation to commit a felony and one count of felonious misconduct in office. He was freed on $15,000 bond.

A building in downtown Atlantic was evacuated Sunday night, after a huge portion of a brick wall collapsed onto the sidewalk below, causing a section of sidewalk to also collapse. The incident was reported to have occurred at around 6:50-p.m.

Atlantic Police Chief Dave Erickson told KJAN News they received a call about a loud noise at 5th and Chestnut. Atlantic Police Lt. Devin Hogue came to investigate and found a section of the north wall near the northwest side of the building at 500 Chestnut had collapsed, showering bricks on the sidewalk.

Erickson estimated two-to three tons of brick fell from a section of wall about 20-to 30-feet wide and about six-feet tall, near the top of the building. No injuries were reported. Three people who live on the second floor of the structure were evacuated. Fifth street was cordoned-off from traffic as a safety precaution.

The cause of the partial collapse had not been determined late Sunday, but Erickson said it could have been anything from old mortar to water getting underneath the bricks, causing them to loosen and fall. An engineer will have to assess the damage and evaluate the building.

Atlantic Police were assisted at the scene by the Atlantic Fire Department, the Atlantic Streets Dept., who help set-up barricades, and Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Kennon.

Council Bluffs Police are investigating a possible attempted abduction that occurred today (Sunday December 16, 2018) at approximately 11:10-a.m.. outside of the Burger King Restaurant, 1529 W. Broadway.

The suspect, a 30-to 40-year old heavy set adult male with facial hair, who was wearing a plaid jacket, blue jeans and a jersey with the #9 on it, grabbed a 27-year old female from Council Bluffs by the arm, and tried to get her to come with him. The woman was able to get away from the man. The suspect then fled the scene in grey vehicle, possibly Chevy or Ford sedan which was parked in the parking lot.

The female victim suffered a minor injury to her arm, but did not require medical attention. Anyone with information in reference to this case is urged to contact the Council Bluffs Police at (712) 328-4716 or Crime Stoppers at (712) 328-STOP (7867).

The Board of Supervisors in Cass County will meet 1-p.m. Monday in their Boardroom at the Courthouse. Prior to the start of their regular session, the Board will canvass the votes of last Tuesday’s Special Election, with regard to the Iowa Western Community College bond referendum. Unofficial results show the bond measure was approved in Cass County, by a vote of 197-to 60.

During the regular session, the Board will act on an annual construction evaluation Resolution, related to the construction of confinement feeding operation structures (otherwise known as the “Master Matrix”). Producers in counties that file the resolutions must meet higher standards for a construction permit than sites in other counties. They must earn points on a master matrix by choosing a site and using practices that reduce effects on the environment and the community. The Master Matrix development, submittal and approval process allows applicants and county supervisors to discuss options for site selection, facility type and management. The county submits a recommendation to the DNR on the permit application after reviewing the master matrix items the applicant selected. Counties that participate in the master matrix process may accompany DNR on site visits to proposed locations. The county board of supervisors may also appeal the DNR’s preliminary approval of a permit to the Environmental Protection Commission. County boards of supervisors may approve the resolutions at any time, but must submit resolutions between Jan. 1 and 31, 2019.

Price also had served as the party’s executive director and led One Iowa, an LGBT advocacy group.

In a written statement Saturday, Price regaled the accomplishments the party made in 2018, including flipping two congressional seats and the state auditor’s office. The party also elected Andrea Phillips as first vice chair, June Owens as second vice chair, Ken Sager as treasurer, and Don Ruby as secretary.

Members of the CAM School District’s Board of Education will gather at the CAM High School Media Center Monday evening for their regular monthly meeting. The session begins at 5-p.m. During their meeting, the Board will hear a presentation on the TLC (Teacher Leadership Program), and a presentation from the Directed Writing Class.

Discussion and/or action items on their agenda, include: Consider approving a quote to replace the lights in the South Elementary and Middle School Buildings; Early graduation requests; a Review of District Financial Data; An Early Retirement Incentive policy; and personnel matters.

The Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton School Board will meet at 6-p.m. Monday in the Conference Room at the Elk Horn Building. On their agenda is recognition of High School TAG (Talented And Gifted) Character Class students, and LEO Leadership students. Nate and Carrie Potts will also address the Board prior to discussion and/or action on several matters.

New Business – Discussion/Action items include, but are not limited to: Approving new Social Studies graduation requirements; approval of a waiver for Offer and Teach for Spanish IV; Approve At Risk/Dropout Prevention application requested Modified Supplemental Amount equal to, or less than $143,314; Approval of a revision to Board Policy 500; Approval of a Procurement Card policy, and action on personnel matters.
