Chargers pick up road win over turnover prone Chiefs

Four turnovers plagued the Kansas City Chiefs offense and a Justin Herbert to Mike Williams touchdown pass with 32 seconds left gave the Chargers a 30-24 victory at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

After the Williams TD the Chiefs’ had a desperation drive fall short and they ended up with their second consecutive loss.

Patrick Mahomes threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns but also tossed two interceptions. Travis Kelce caught seven balls for 104 yards. Clyde Edwards-Helaire led the rushing attack with 100 yards on 17 carries and also hauled in one touchdown reception.

The Chiefs will head to Philadelphia next Sunday for a noon contest against the Eagles. We’ll have pregame coverage starting at 11:00 a.m. on KJAN.

Red Oak man arrested Sunday morning

(Red Oak, Iowa) – A traffic stop in Red Oak at around 12:25-a.m. today (Sunday), resulted in an arrest. Red Oak Police reports 49-year-old Floyd Raymond Henry, II, of Red Oak, was taken into custody near the intersection of Miller Avenue and Valley Street, for Driving While Revoked, a serious misdemeanor. Henry was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Fatal crash Saturday night in SE Iowa

(West Liberty, Iowa) – One person is dead following a collision between a car and a semi tractor trailer Saturday night, in southeast Iowa. The collision occurred in Muscatine County, near the town of West Liberty, just before 10-p.m. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2006 Honda Accord driven by a 30-year-old was traveling south on Highway 70 near 270th Street, when the vehicle crossed over into coming traffic.

The car was struck by a northbound 2012 Kenworth semi, also driven by a person who was said to be 30-years old. No names were released. Both vehicles ended up in the east ditch.

The accident remained under investigation. The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, Conesville Fire/EMS & West Liberty EMS assisted the Patrol at the scene.

Baylor beats Iowa State 31-29

WACO, Texas – Baylor stopped a two-point try with 24 seconds left to beat No. 14 Iowa State 31-29 on Saturday.

Breece Hall ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries for Iowa State (2-2, 0-1 Big 12) and caught five passes for 51 yards, including a 16-yard score in the final minute that was followed by a failed two-point try. The Bears recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock. Gerry Bohanon threw for two touchdowns and ran for another for Baylor.

The Bears (4-0, 2-0) scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and never trailed again. Bohannon ran for an 8-yard touchdown, then found Tyquan Thornton along the left sideline for a 21-yard TD and Ben Sims behind the Iowa State secondary for a 33-yard score to give Baylor a 21-7 lead seven seconds into the second quarter.

Bohannon finished 14 for 19 for 164 yards and rushed for 36 yards. Treston Ebner returned a kickoff 98 yards for Baylor’s only touchdown of the second half with 6:59 left in the third quarter. Brock Purdy was 22 for 33 for 263 yards and a touchdown. He was also intercepted once, stopping a drive at the Baylor 22 with 11:55 left in the game.

Hall’s rushing touchdown on the opening drive of the game was his 16th-straight game with a rushing touchdown, breaking the Big 12 record. Hall also tied the school record for career rushing touchdowns with 36, while setting the career touchdowns mark with his 40th.

UP NEXT

Iowa State will return home to meet Kansas on Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on FS1.

Iowa gets past Colorado State

The Iowa Hawkeyes improved to 4-0 on the season with a 24-14 win over Colorado State. Iowa outscored the Rams 14-0 in the third quarter to take the lead after Colorado State lead 14-0 at halftime.

Tyrone Tracy had a 6 yard rushing touchdown to tie the game up with 8:17 left to go in the third. Sam LaPorta then caught a go-ahead touchdown pass from 27 yards out from Spencer Petras with 6:01 left in the third quarter. Caleb Shudak added a 46-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to provide the final margin.

Next up the Hawkeyes play at Maryland on Friday, Ocotber 1st with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff on BTN.

Homecoming in a northwest Iowa school district marred by a death during a parade

SLOAN, Iowa — Homecoming for a northwest Iowa school district was marred by the death of a middle school student during a parade. According to reports, the accident happened at around 2-p.m. Friday, in Sloan. Authorities said the middle school student, Kage McDonald, was injured and a medical helicopter flew Kage to MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center.Westwood Superintendent Jay Lutt released a statement stating Kage died from his injuries. “Kage had an enormous heart and I enjoyed every interaction I had with him,” Lutt released in the statement. “He was a tough kid who worked hard at everything he did. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.”

Hinton School District postponed its game against Westwood Friday night to 5 p.m. Saturday.

BETTY JO MARCELLUS, 81, of Atlantic died Nov. 8th, 2020, at Atlantic Specialty Care.  A Celebration of Life with family and friends of BETTY MARCELLUS will be held 10:30-a.m. Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

The service will be recorded and available on the funeral home website by Noon on Monday, Oct. 4th. Immediately following the service, lunch will be served at The Venue (307 Walnut St.) in Atlantic. All are encouraged to come to either or both gatherings.; Online condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.

Memorials may be left for the family to designate at a later time.
