The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night in 10 innings of play. Paul Goldschmidt was walked in the 10th and Tommy Edman ran the bases and stole third with one out. Albert Pujols then delivered his second sacrifice fly of the night to give the Cardinals the win.
Goldschmidt extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a third-inning double that brought home the first Cardinals run. He would score another run on Pujols’ other sac fly.
Adam Wainwright struck out 10 and allowed just 2 hits in seven innings of work. Wainright and Yadier Molina celebrated their 314th start together, 10 shy of the all-time record.
The Cardinals improved to 28-21. The two teams finish out their set with a day game today. Pregame at 11:20 a.m. and first pitch at 12:15 p.m.
Today (Wednesday) is decision day for UNI star A.J. Green. The two time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year must withdraw from the NBA Draft if he intends to play in college next year. If he does the most likely destinations are Iowa State or Duke. Green had a workout with the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.
After missing nearly the entire 20-21 season with two hip surgeries Green averaged nearly 19 points in leading UNI to the Valley regular season title.
Green says the process of exploring the draft has been beneficial.
Former Iowa star Tristan Wirfs is looking to improve on his run blocking. The Pro Bowl right tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is gearing up for his third season in the NFL.
Wirfs suffered an ankle injury in Tampa Bay’s playoff loss to the Rams last season and was forced to watch much of the game from the sideline.
Wirfs says it was a difficult way to end the season.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup was traveling north on Kelly Avenue near 180th Trail northeast of Mondamin, when the vehicle left the road and rolled multiple times before landing on the driver’s side in the west ditch.
