Iowa’s Davitt selected by Rays in 18th Round of 2022 MLB Draft

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa redshirt junior Duncan Davitt was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in the 18th Round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft.  Davitt was the 554th pick overall.

Davitt is the fourth Hawkeye to have his name called in the 2022 MLB Draft and he is the 27th player drafted under head coach Rick Heller.  It is the fourth time under Heller that Iowa has had four or more players selected.

The Indianola, Iowa, native went 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 19 appearances (four starts) as a key reliever in the Hawkeye bullpen during the 2022 season.  The right-hander had 61 strikeouts (to 15 walks) over 40 innings.

During his four years in Iowa City, Davitt went 11-5 with a 4.74 ERA over 53 appearances, including 21 starts.  He had 171 strikeouts over 144 1/3 innings.  Davitt was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection as a Hawkeye.

Iowa GOP to hold fundraiser celebrating FITN of their Caucuses, days after DNC decision on Iowa Democrats

(Radio Iowa) – The head of the national Republican Party will be the keynote speaker for an Iowa G-O-P fundraiser next month. Potential G-O-P presidential candidates have been making their way to Iowa for months in anticipation of the 2024 Iowa Caucuses, which national Republican Party leaders have voted to keep first in the nation.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel’s appearance at the August 10th fundraiser in Des Moines will be a celebration of Iowa’s First in the Nation status, according to Iowa G-O-P chairman Jeff Kaufmann.

The Iowa G-O-P’s fundraiser will be held four days after the DEMOCRATIC National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws panel decides whether the Iowa Democratic Party’s Caucuses will remain first in their party’s next presidential nominating process.

Harlan Police report, 7/19/22

(Harlan, Iowa) – The Harlan Police Department reports four arrests. On July 2nd, 58-year-old Barbara Rose Kleymann, of Portsmouth, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. On the 3rd, 42-year-old Faith Merritt Peterson, of Harlan, was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated and improper rear lamp.

July 5th, Harlan Police arrested 35-year-old Nathan Howard Lavender, following a traffic stop. Lavender was transported to the Shelby County Jail where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, operation without registration, no insurance and driving under suspension.

On the 17th, 38-year-old Cory Christopher McCoy, of, Harlan, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication.

ATLANTIC, IA – Produce in the Park is hosting two food trucks Thursday evening, July 21st: Zipp’s Pizzeria and Zemog’s Cocina. Zemog’s has quickly become a popular TexMex taco truck at the park this summer, and lots of customers have asked about having Zipp’s at the market.

In addition to two food trucks, this week visitors to Produce in the Park will find free putt-putt golf with the Atlantic Lions Club, yard games with Atlantic Parks and Recreation, fresh-cut flowers from Exira Flower Supply, and summer favorite produce including zucchini, sweet corn, and tomatoes, in addition to farmers market staples such as fresh-squeezed lemonade and popcorn, eggs, honey, desserts, meat, and more.
