BILLY CARL MARPLES, 62, of Elk Horn, died Thursday, January 31st at the Salem Nursing Home, in Elk Horn. Services for BILLY CARL MARPLES will be held on Tuesday, February 5th at 11:00 am in the First Baptist Church in Elk Horn. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Family will greet friends Monday, February 4th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Burial in the Oakfield Cemetery in Elk Horn.

Brothers: Greg Marples of California; Tim Marples of California.
Sisters: Nancy Dameron of Colorado; Pam Marples of Florida; Tammy Marples of California.

An incident Wednesday night in Atlantic led to the arrest of three teens on explosives-related charges. According to the Atlantic Police Department, 19-year old Daylan Kleen, 17-year old Bryce Gehling, and 17-year old Jeremy Stone, all of Atlantic, were arrested shortly after 9:30-p.m. All three were charged with Reckless use of Fire or Explosive Device, Possession of Weapons (Homemade explosive), and Using Explosives with the Intent to Commit a Public Offense.
Kleen was booked into the Cass County Jail, while Gehling and Stone were later released to the custody of their parents, pending an appearance in juvenile court. Additional details about the incident are currently not available.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association announced the post season pairings for class 1-A and 2-A teams Wednesday afternoon. Early games will be played beginning February 11 with teams hoping to reach the state tournament March 4-9 in Des Moines. Class 3-A and 4-A pairings are to be announced next week. A domestic incident early this (Thursday) morning led to the arrest of a Red Oak man. Red Oak Police say they received a call just after 2-a.m., about a possible domestic assault in progress in the 200 block of East Corning Street. Following an investigation, 35-year-old Erik Allan Appley , of Red Oak, was charged with Felony Domestic Abuse, three counts of Child Endangerment, and possession of a controlled substance. Appley was being held in the Montgomery County jail without bond, pending an appearance before the magistrate.
