An error by Ryan Goins allowed Springer to advance to third. After reigning AL MVP Jose Altuve was walked intentionally, Correa singled into right-center gap against Justin Grimm.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Kevin Abel and Jake Mulholland combined on a four-hitter, Tyler Malone hit his third home run of the College World Series, and Oregon State survived some ninth-inning drama to beat Mississippi State 5-2 to reach the best-of-three finals against Arkansas. As they did in 2006, when they won the first of two straight national titles, the Beavers came back from losing their CWS opener to win four straight and make the finals.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Yadier Molina homered twice to back a strong start by Miles Mikolas and lift the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Molina’s two-run homer in the sixth inning off reliever Jeremy Jeffress gave St. Louis the lead and the Cardinals held on behind the pitching of Mikolas and four relievers.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Shelby Houlihan stormed past Jenny Simpson to win the women’s 1,500 meters at the USATF national outdoor championships in Des Moines. Houlihan, who grew up in nearby Sioux City, passed Simpson _ also a native Iowan _ with 50 meters left to knock off the seven-time national champion in the event.

MADISON, Ill. (AP) — Justin Haley won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Gateway Motorsports Park for his first career victory, pulling away on a wild last restart. The 19-year-old Haley took the lead when Kyle Busch Motorsports teammates Noah Gragson and Todd Gilliland made contact racing for the lead on a restart with seven laps to go. Haley then held off GMS Racing teammate Johnny Sauter on the final restart with two laps left

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Yadier Molina’s defense and longevity might earn him a ticket to the Hall of Fame. Suddenly the veteran St. Louis Cardinals catcher is on a home-run tear. He homered twice to back a strong start by Miles Mikolas and lift the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

Molina’s two-run homer in the sixth inning off reliever Jeremy Jeffress gave St. Louis the lead and the Cardinals held on behind the solid pitching of Mikolas and four relievers. Molina has five home runs in his last six games, including another two-homer game in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said the 35-year-old Molina has developed more power as he has grown older. Marcell Ozuna led off the sixth with a line-drive single to center and scored on Molina’s shot to right-center, a ball that bounced off the top of the wall and into the St. Louis bullpen for a 3-2 Cardinals lead.

The Brewers (45-31) remained two games ahead of the second-place Chicago Cubs in the NL Central after Chicago lost in Cincinnati on Saturday. Mikolas (8-2), who pitched in Japan last season, allowed three hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings while walking two and striking out five. Bud Norris earned his 14th save with a scoreless ninth. Jeffress (5-1) took the loss. Mikolas retired 16 of the last 17 hitters he faced.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Shelby Houlihan grew up in Sioux City admiring fellow Iowan and middle-distance star Jenny Simpson. Houlihan just might be poised to pass Simpson as America’s next great hope at 1,500 meters. The 25-year-old Houlihan stormed past Simpson, 31, to win the 1,500 on Saturday at the USATF national outdoor championships at Drake Stadium— Simpson’s hometown track.

Houlihan took the lead from Simpson with 50 meters left to knock off the seven-time national champion in the event. Instead of going hard for the entire race, Simpson’s strategy was to find a more realistic pace in hopes of having enough energy left to make the final kick count. She didn’t, but the younger Houlihan sure did.

Houlihan won in 4:05.48, almost a second better than Simpson, to notch her second victory over Simpson in a month. Houlihan beat her Hawkeye State rival for the first time in the Prefontaine Classic on May 26.

A slight headwind helped keep the times down in the sprints, but world record-holder Keni Harrison still took the women’s 100 hurdles in an impressive 12.46. Kahmari Montgomery won the men’s 400 in 44.58 seconds. Kenny Selmon took the men’s 400 hurdles in 48.21, and Shakima Wimbley cruised to the women’s 400 title in 49.52.

WOMEN’S HAMMER THROW
This discipline has been arguably the most exciting among U.S. field events of late. DeAnna Price kept that trend going by setting an American record, winning with a world-leading throw of 256 feet, 3 inches. Price had set the mark on June 2, only to have Gwendolyn Berry break it six days later at 255-2. Berry finished second on Saturday. Price credits her improvement in 2017 in part to the 45 pounds she lost in the offseason.

MEN’S 1,500
Matthew Centrowitz, who was upset by Robby Andrews in this meet a year ago, won in 3:43.37 to claim his fifth title. Centrowitz, the Olympic champion from 2016, is one victory shy of matching the legendary Steve Scott, who won the event six times from 1978-86. “At this point in my career I want to keep checking off boxes and leave my mark in the 1,500 and the U.S,” Centrowitz said.

MEN’S POLE VAULT
Sam Kendricks became the first American pole vaulter to win five consecutive national titles in 74 years, clearing 19-2 1/4 to best a field of up-and-comers. “This is a huge responsibility to compete well. Don’t give them an inch, they’ll take it,” Kendricks said.

WOMEN’S STEEPLECHASE
Defending world champion Emma Coburn claimed her seventh national title in a thriller over Courtney Frerichs. Coburn won in 9:17.70, just a second faster than Frerichs. The two also finished 1-2 at worlds in 2017. “It’s great having a really strong competitor that challenges you. It really makes you keep it honest and grind,” Coburn said.
