MICHAEL “MIKE” LYNN WHITAKER, 70, of Carroll, died Wed., Nov. 16th, at the Carroll Health Center, in Carroll. Funeral services for MIKE WHITAKER will be held 10:30am Monday, November 21st at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 20th from Noon-9:00pm with family greeting friends from 3:00-6:00pm at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

MIKE WHITAKER is survived by:

His wife Mary, and son Chris Whitaker, both of Carroll.

Step-Daughters: Janet Renze of Mitchellville, MD.  Denise Boring of Urbandale.

ETHEL “PEARL” JAURON, 97, of Earling, died Thu., Nov. 17th, at the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home and Rehab Center, in Earling. A Mass of Christian Burial service for “PEARL” JAURON will be held 11-a.m. Mon., Nov. 21st, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church from 5-8pm Sun., Nov. 20th, with a Vigil service at 7-p.m.

Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery at Earling.

ETHEL JAURON is survived by:

Her sons – David (Donna) Jauron, of Essex; Tom (Madelyn) Jauron, of Phoenix, AZ; Jim (Jolene) Jauron, of Indianola; Steve (Judy) Jauron, of Sgt. Bluff; Vincent )Deb) Jauron, of Harlan; Richard Jauron, of Ames.

There is no visitation.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Anita.

McDermott Leads Creighton Past UAB in 70-60 Win

     BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – Doug McDermott scored 27 points to lead Creighton past Alabama-Birmingham 70-60 on Wednesday night.  The Bluejays (3-0) trailed 48-44 in the second half before scoring six straight to take the lead on Austin Chatman’s layup with 8:15 to play.  The Blazers (0-1) tied it on Jekore Tyler’s jumper with 5:55 left, but they wouldn’t lead the rest of the way.  Creighton answered with a 14-3 run capped by Antoine Young’s jumper with 2:29 left for a 64-53 lead.  McDermott was 11 of 18 from the field as the Bluejays made 27 of 63 from the field (42.9 percent). Creighton outrebounded the Blazers 41-35, led by Gregory Echenique’s 10 boards.  Tyler and Jordan Swing led UAB with 14 points apiece. Ovie Soko added 10 points and Cameron Moore also chipped in 12 rebounds for the Blazers, who outscored Creighton 21-2 off the bench.
