The damage was estimated at $250. Officials have no suspects at this time.

Brothers reports also, the arrest early Sunday morning, of 29-year old Edward Dawayne Mayes, of Clarinda. Mays was taken into custody at around 1-a.m., on a charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI), 1st offense. Mayes was being held in the Page County Jail on $1,000 bond, pending an appearance before the Magistrate.

DENISON, Iowa (AP) – Authorities have identified the body found near railroad tracks in western Iowa last month as a Pennsylvania man.  But investigators are still waiting on more test results to help determine the cause of 44-year-old Jonathan Elwell’s death. Crawford County Sheriff Jim Steinkuehler says the Shillington, Penn., man’s body was found by two railroad workers near Highway 30 between Vail and Westside on June 19th. Elwell’s rented vehicle had been found in Crawford County on April 20th with his bicycle in the trunk.  Officials say foul play is not suspected in Elwell’s death, but family members have said they don’t know why he was in Iowa.

Iowa fire marshal ends farm electrical inspections

Ag/Outdoor, News

June 30th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — State fire officials have suspended inspections of electrical installations at farms, despite a state regulation requiring the inspections, and a state lawmaker is vowing to fight the change. The Des Moines Register reports that the order to suspend the farm inspections goes into effect Sunday. Iowa State Fire Marshal Ray Reynolds says the suspension is legal. He says the suspension means inspectors can focus on public buildings and homes instead of farm buildings, which have a low rate of human fire deaths. But Iowa Senate President Jack Kibbie, D-Emmetsburg, has requested an opinion from the Iowa attorney general on the order. He blames the change on Republican Gov. Terry Branstad, who has been a vocal critic of the farm electrical inspection regulation.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Clint Barmes, pinch-hitter Alex Presley and Garrett Jones each homered in a four-run sixth inning that snapped a tie, and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 14-5 in a game that began in 101-degree heat Friday night.

Andrew McCutchen had four of the Pirates’ season-high 19 hits, the last a three-run homer off Marc Rzepczynski in the ninth. McCutchen also robbed Allen Craig of a third extra-base hit with a running catch near the center field wall in the fifth.

The Pirates have 38 homers this month, one off the franchise record set in 1975, and the run total was the franchise’s best since they also scored 14 on Aug. 31, 2010, at the Chicago Cubs.

Carlos Beltran got his 2,000th career hit on an RBI single in the third against Kevin Correia (4-6).
