Theft and vandalism incidents under investigation in Clarinda

The Clarinda Police Department is investigation several recent incidents of theft and vandalism. Chief Keith Brothers says on Tuesday, October 9th, the Illinois-Iowa road Construction Company reported that four road constructions signs and stands had been stolen from the area of Shenck Road & the US. Highway 71/State Highway 2 bypass sometime between October 8th and 9th.

Last Friday, a Clarinda resident reported that a 1996 Dodge truck they owned was vandalized, while the vehicle was parked at their residence located in the 400 block of West Stuart Street. The vehicle had been pelted with eggs sometime that same day. No damage was estimate available.

On Thursday, October 4th, a Clarinda resident reported someone had vandalized her 2000 Chevrolet truck. The box of the truck had received multiple dents from some type of blunt object. The truck was damaged while it was parked in the Parkview apartment complex lot, located at 1001 E. Main Street. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between October 3rd & 4th. Damage to the truck is estimated at $1,500.00.

That same day, another Clarinda resident reported vandalism to his 2005 GMC truck while it was parked in the 300 block of W. Grant Street. The incident occurred sometime between October 3rd & 4th. The vehicle had been pelted with eggs. Damage to the truck is estimated at $200.00.

Theft and other arrests reported in Cass County

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports today (Wednesday), the arrest on Columbus Day (Monday), of 44-year old David Lee Jordan, of Atlantic. Jordan was charged with OWI 2nd Offense and Driving Under Suspension. He was brought to the Cass County Jail and  released the following day on his own recognizance. On Sunday, 30-year old Jason Thomas Eilts, of Wiota, was arrested in Cass County on a Dallas County warrant. Eilts was brought to the Cass County Jail and later transferred to Dallas County.

Officials said also, 18-year old Nicholas Wayne Renner, of Atlantic, was arrested October 3rd, on a charge of Theft in the 3rd Degree. Renner was taken to the Cass County Jail and was released on his own recognizance the following day. On October 5th, 27-year old Rose Ellen Points, of Council Bluffs, was arrested in Cass County on a warrant for Probation Violation. Points was taken to the Cass County Jail where she was being held on $10,000 bond.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office this (Wednesday) morning, released additional details about an accident that occurred at around 10-p.m. Tuesday, north of Atlantic. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on Eastland Road. Upon investigation, it was determined a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo owned and driven by 47-year old Lana Jo Knight, of Atlantic, was traveling east on Eastland Road, when Knight swerved to avoid a deer on the road. Her car entered the north ditch and rolled onto its top.

A passenger in the vehicle, 19-year old Brandon Allen Anderson, of Atlantic, was transported to the Cass County Memorial Hospital by Medivac ambulance, after complaining of head and neck pain. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $5000. Knight was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

WFAN hosts Women Caring for the Land mtg in Honey Creek

Registration is being accepted now through October 18th, for women landowners interested in conservation. Women who own or manage farmland in western Iowa are invited to the free conservation discussion Sponsored by the Women, Food and Agriculture Network (WFAN). The session will take place Saturday, October 20th at Hitchcock Nature Center near Honey Creek, IA.

Coffee and registration begin at 9:30 a.m. A free lunch is being provided. The discussion will focus on identifying, establishing, and protecting wetlands. All women landowners are welcome, regardless of whether you have wetlands on your property now. The event is part of WFAN’s Women Caring for the LandSM series, in collaboration with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and other partners.

Reservations are needed by 5-p.m. Thursday, October 18th. You can e-mail Karen Androy, Harrison County Soil and Water District, at Karen.Androy@ia.nacdnet.net,  or call her at 712-644-2210. This event is funded by a grant from the U-S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
