SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – An 8-year-old Sioux City boy is being credited with saving members of his family from carbon monoxide poisoning.  Jacob Mace was sleeping at his grandmother’s house Tuesday night when he woke up feeling ill.  He then woke up his grandmother, Debbie Beardsley, who also was ill. She thought they might have the flu, until other family members in the house reported feeling ill, too.

Beardsley and her 29-year-old son took Jacob and Beardsley’s 16-year-old granddaughter to a Sioux City hospital, where it was discovered they were all suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Devin Gardner accounted for six touchdowns to help No. 23 Michigan rout Iowa 42-17 Saturday. The Wolverines (8-3, 6-1 Big Ten) weren’t stopped on offense by the hapless Hawkeyes (4-7, 2-5) until Gardner threw an interception early in the fourth quarter. Gardner threw three touchdowns and ran for three scores. He became the first Michigan quarterback to account for six TDs since 1983 when Steve Smith had as many passing and rushing scores in a game at Minnesota.

Denard Robinson played after missing two-plus games with nerve damage in his right elbow. Robinson started at running back and took some snaps at QB, but didn’t throw a pass. Michigan running back Fitzgerald Toussaint appeared to break his left leg on his team’s first drive.

Cass Supervisors approve Walnut Grove Subdivision plat

News

November 17th, 2012 by Ric Hanson

The Cass County Board of Supervisors have approved a plat for the Walnut Grove Subdivision southwest of Atlantic. The action came during the Board’s meeting earlier this week, in Atlantic. Zoning Administrator Rich Hanson reported during Wednesday’s meeting that the Zoning Commission met October 31st and approved the final plat filed by Jason Wright and others for the property.

In other business, the Supervisors discussed, but took no action on a Resolution for the Division of Land Process as required under Chapter 354 of the Code of Iowa. Earlier in the morning, the Board Wednesday met to canvass the results of the November 8th General Election. The canvass resulted in no changes to those elected to the various County Offices, Commissions, Councils and Township Trustee and/or Clerk positions.

When the Supervisors meet again on Wed., Nov. 21st, they are expected to act on allowing or disallowing Military exemptions and Homestead Credit applications for taxes collectible for Fiscal Year 2013-2014. And, if the paperwork is ready, act on an Ordinance removing parcels from the Amaizing Energy TIF District, as it pertains to the Division of Taxes Levied on Taxable Property in the Amaizing Energy Urban Renewal Area (URA), pursuant to the Code of Iowa. The Board will also act on a contract for Private Development with Fagen Farms, if the contract is ready.
