Students and staff of the 20th Street Elementary School in Denison gathered money for one of the school’s teachers who is undergoing treatment for cancer, and presented her with about $1,400 Friday, in the school gym. According to the Omaha World-Herald, coins of all denominations poured from boots into a bucket in a show of support for Pam Brosamle, a second-grade teacher at the school who is being treated for cancer. Both the students and staff wore boots and hats, in keeping with the theme of the fundraiser. The money will help pay for gas and food for Brosamle and her family. She drives from Denison to Omaha Monday through Friday each week for treatments.

Brosamle’s students came up with the idea for a coin drive. In addition, a staff meal and fundraiser sponsored by a couple who own a restaurant in  Denison, brought in $600. A total of $2,228.22 was raised from Wednesday through Friday. $800 will be set aside to enable Brosamle to pay for gas to travel to and from Omaha for six weeks, while another $800 will be used to help with her meals.

Also, a portion of the funds raised…$628…will be donated to Crawford County Relay for Life.
