Rainfall in Atlantic from mid-day Saturday through 6:30-a.m today (Sunday), amounted to 1.04-inches here at the KJAN studios, the official National Weather Service reporting site for Atlantic. The forecast calls for more showers and possible thunderstorms redeveloping later this afternoon and this evening, before ending and becoming partly cloudy w/areas of fog into Monday morning.

Saturday’s high in Atlantic was 69. Our near 24-hour low through 5-a.m. today was 55.

Latos pitches Reds to 4-2 win over Cardinals

CINCINNATI (AP) — Mat Latos turned in seven solid innings and the Cincinnati Reds broke out of their slump with a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night. Devin Mesoraco homered and drove in two runs and Jay Bruce also homered as the Reds snapped a three-game losing streak and scored more than two runs against St. Louis for the first time in the last seven games between the teams.

Latos (6-0), who got the decision in Cincinnati’s last win over St. Louis on April 29, allowed eight hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts against a Cardinals team that went into the game leading the National League in hitting.

The Reds had lost five of their last six games against St. Louis, but scored four against Cardinals rookie left-hander Tyler Lyons before a sellout crowd of 40,740 at Great American Ball Park.

BOONE, Iowa (AP) — Residents of a small central Iowa city say they’re saddened at the discovery of a body in a river believed to be that of a 15-year-old girl who was abducted more than two weeks ago. Along streets and businesses in Dayton, purple ribbons on trees, plants and utility poles had signified hope for finding Kathylnn Shepard alive. A body in clothing that matches what she was last seen wearing was discovered Friday night in the Des Moines River near Boone, about 20 miles away.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and Nebraska Agricultural Trade Representative Stan Garbacz are packing for Turkey to accompany officials from four other states and the U.S. Department of Agriculture on a trade mission. Officials from Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota and Pennsylvania also have reserved space for the trip to be led by acting USDA Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Michael Scuse next week.

DYERSVILLE, Iowa (AP) — Several former major league baseball players are scheduled to participate in a game this fall at the “Field of Dreams” movie site in eastern Iowa. Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports the game is set for September 14th in Dyersville.

NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — The NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway has been postponed until 10 o’clock this morning due to weather. The race was set to begin at 7 p.m. yesterday, but rain began falling about 40 minutes before the scheduled start in Newton, Iowa.

NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — The NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway has been postponed until 10 a.m. CDT Sunday because of rain. The race was set to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday night, but rain began falling about 40 minutes before the scheduled start. Workers were nearly finished drying the track before it started to rain again, forcing officials to push the race back a day. Austin Dillon will start first after winning the pole for the third week in a row, followed by Sam Hornish Junior, Brian Scott and Brian Vickers.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 11-p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued at 4-p.m. remains in effect until 11-p.m. for Shelby, Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Page and Fremont Counties in southwest Iowa. The watch has been cancelled for Harrison County, as the storms make their way east. There is still a possibility of large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado.

MO work release prisoner arrested in Adams County

Sheriff’s officials in Adams County said Saturday, that two people were arrested Friday, while a third was arrested Thursday. 43-year old Jimmie Tucker, of Missouri, was arrested at around 9:10-a.m. Friday, after the Adams County Dispatch Center received a call about a suspicious man walking down the highway, waiving his arms at persons driving by. Deputies made contact with Tucker, who revealed to them he was wanted for leaving his work release program in Missouri. Tucker was arrested on a parole violation and for absconding from a work release program.

Officials say 36-year old A-J Miller, of Lorimor, IA, was arrested at around 4:55-p.m. Friday in Adams County, on a warrant associated with an incident which allegedly occurred on October 5th, 2012. He was charged with Theft in the 2nd Degree.

And on Thursday, Adams County deputies arrested 24-year old Eric Shinn, of Prescott, for Harassment in the 1st Degree. Shinn was taken into custody at around 6:40-p.m. on a warrant stemming froma previous investigation, and held in the Adams County Jail on $2,000 bond.

RUTH E. DAVIS, 94, formerly of Avoca, died Fri., June 7th, in Omaha. Funeral services for RUTH DAVIS will be held 10-a.m. Tue., June 11th, at the United Church of Avoca. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Avoca has the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 6-to8pm Mon., June 10th, at the Braman Mortuary (72nd & Chapel), in Omaha. The family will meet with friends on Tuesday, from 9-am until the time of service, at the United Church of Avoca.

Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery at Avoca.

Her son – Joseph W. Davis, III, of Omaha.
