Shenandoah woman arrested for allegedly removing items from a drug drop-off box

Officials with the Shenandoah Police Department, Thursday, said a woman was arrested Tuesday, after she allegedly tried to remove drugs from a drop box in Shenandoah’s Police Station. 29-year-old Jocelyn Coleman was arrested for Theft in the 3rd Degree, and Disorderly Conduct.

Authorities said Officers responded to the Police Department lobby, following a reported disturbance. A witness told police Coleman was removing items from the Drug drop box in the lobby. Coleman was unable to post a $2,300 bond, and was transported to the Page County Jail.

In an unrelated incident, Shenandoah Police, Tuesday, arrested 40-year-old Christopher Bowers, of Shenandoah, on an active Page County warrant. He faces a charge of failure to appear on an original charge of eluding law enforcement. Bowers was being held in the Page County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office report (9/2/21)

(Council Bluffs) – Officials with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Thursday, reported three arrests were conducted over the past couple of days:

  • 43-year-old Scott Wayne Casson was arrested Sept. 2nd in Treynor, for Violation of Probation.
  • 52-year-old Edward Anthony Gomez, of Omaha, Nebraska, was arrested Wednesday, after Deputies were called to the Minden Casey’s for a reported incident of theft. Gomez was charged with Theft in the 5th Degree (Larceny under $300); That same day, 25-year-old Schuyler Mitchell Lee Heisser was arrested following a traffic stop. He was charged with Driving While License Suspended or Revoked.

All three subjects were later released from custody.

No. 8 Riverside and No. 9 St. Albert collide in A district 7

(Radio Iowa) – Week two features a key game in class A District seven as eighth ranked Riverside of Oakland visits number nine Council Bluffs St. Albert. St. Albert opened with a non district loss to Treynor and coach Jake Driver says the Falcons face a tough district slate.

Driver says Riverside’s balance is a concern.

Driver says tackling will be a key for the Falcons.

Adel woman appointed as District Court Judge

DES MOINES– Gov. Kim Reynolds today (Thursday), announced her appointment of Stacy Ritchie as a district court judge in Judicial Election District 5A.  Ritchie, of Adel, currently serves as an Assistant Dallas County Attorney. She received her undergraduate degree from Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota and her law degree from the Drake University Law School.

Ritchie fills the vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of District Court Judge Richard B. Clogg. Judicial Election District 5A includes Dallas, Guthrie, Jasper, Madison, Marion, and Warren counties.

FFA Livestock contest judging results from across the area

Over the summer, the Atlantic FFA participated in several different livestock judging contests across the area; all of which at county fairs. Livestock judging is all about analyzing animals, whether that be beef, swine, sheep, or goat, and how they compare with one another as well as how they compare to an ideal standard. At most local events, teams up to four will place four animals in the most optimal order, while at state events and above, contestants will have to give specific reasoning for their choices.

The first contest that members attended was at the Adams County Fair in Corning. Team members Aspen Niklasen, Bryan York, Daniel Freund and Dylan Comes placed 7th overall. The next contest the Atlantic FFA chapter attended was at the Montgomery County Fair in Red Oak. Team members consisted of Daniel Freund, Bret Dreager, the team placed 4th overall. McKenna placed 5th overall in the Individual portion of the contest.

The third contest of the season was the Audubon County Fair in Audubon. Two teams competed in the contest, Team two consisting of Reid Woodward, Lola Comes and Malena Woodwar placed 8th. Team one that consisted of McKenna Sontag, Dylan Comes and Brett Dreager placed 9th overall. Individually Malena Woodward placed 6th overall and McKenna placed 10th.

At the Adair County Fair, the team of at the Adair County Dan Freund, Dylan Comes, Cooper Jipsen, Lola Comes, McKenna Sonntag placed 5th. Newcomer to the team Lola Comes said, “My focus has been cattle because that is what I love to work with, but livestock judging has opened my eyes to other varieties of livestock. “

Last warm up before Districts was Page County Fair at Clarinda. Dylan Comes led the team with a 9th place individually, Daniel Freund, Cooper Jipsen and McKenna Sonntag placed 7th. Sonntag said, “Livestock judging was a great opportunity to learn even more about each livestock species and have a lot of fun together “

The Southwest FFA Districts Contest was held at the Cass County Fair this year. Atlantic FFA team 1 consisting of Malena Woodward, Cooper Jipsen, McKenna Sonntag and Bret Dreager placed 5th at the SW District FFA livestock judging contest at the Cass County Fair. Malena placed 4th individually and Cooper placed 9th. Atlantic FFA team 2 consisting of Ried Woodward, Brock Henderson, Lola Comes and Dan Freund placed 7th at the SW District FFA livestock judging contest today at the Cass County Fair.

Finally at the Iowa FFA State Livestock Judging Career Development Event, McKenna Sonntag, Dylan Comes and Malena Woodward placed 25th out of 46 chapters earning a Silver rating. Atlantic FFA Advisor Mr Eric Miller said, “the contest was very competitive. There were only 25 points separating 10th and 25th. I am very happy with how far the team has come this year. The three individuals competed in placing breeding and market classes of beef, swine, sheep and goats; keep/cull and oral reasons classes; and a general knowledge test.

In the upcoming months Atlantic FFA will attend 2 more Livestock Judging Contests, the Guthrie County Fair and the Clay County Fair. If you are interested, please talk to Mr. Miller or any of the FFA Officers. Anyone is welcome to join FFA.

ARLINE WIECHMAN, 98, of Massena (Svcs. 9/7/21)

Obituaries

ARLINE WIECHMAN, 98, of Massena, died Wed., Sept. 1st, at the Allen House in Atlantic. Funeral services for ARLINE WIECHMAN will be held 11-a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home, on Monday, Sept. 6th, from 3-until 5-p.m.; Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com.

Burial is in the Victoria Township Cemetery, south of Massena, following the service.

A luncheon will be held at the Massena Legion/Lion’s Hall following the burial.

Memorials may be directed to Arline Wiechman Memorial Fund to be established by the family.

ARLINE WIECHMAN is survived by:

Her daughter – Jacqueline (Thomas) Ring, of Elk Horn, Iowa.

Her son – William (Lynn) Wiechman, of Clarinda.

4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Atlantic football ready to turn the page to Kuemper Catholic challenge

Trojan LogoAtlantic and Kuemper Catholic will both be looking to bounce back from disappointing opening week performances when they meet on the gridiron Friday night. The Trojans lost their opener at home to Glenwood 38-0 and Kuemper Catholic lost on the road 40-14 to Logan-Magnolia. Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer feels like his team has responded well in practice this week.

Atlantic will be tasked this week with trying to slow down a run heavy offense from the Knights. Taye Vonnahme is an experienced back that grounded out 89 yards against the Panthers in week one. Coach Brummer said the Trojan defense will need to be prepared for a tough backfield.

Atlantic would like to achieve some balance on offense in week two. Kuemper Catholic Head Coach Ryan Steinkamp expects to see a quick Atlantic team that his defense will need to play sound against.

Coach Steinkamp said despite the score in the game against Logan-Magnolia, he thought his defense played well. He said they will have to line up some more defensive backs at times against the Trojans and he hopes they are ready to limit chunk plays.

The Trojans and the Knights are set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Carroll Stadium. Fans will need to purchase tickets online in advance. We’ll have full coverage on AM 1220, FM 101.1, KJAN.com, and live video on KJANTV. Chris Parks and Mike Smith will have the call from Carroll.
