ADM defeats Atlantic in injury shortened game

Sports

September 25th, 2021 by admin

The ADM Tigers picked up a 40-16 win over Atlantic on Friday night in Adel. The game was shortened after Trojan wideout Garrett McLaren was knocked out from a hard hit and had to be transported from the field by ambulance. After medical staff attended to McLaren for about 20 minutes on the field and transported him off, the coaching staffs mutually agreed to end the contest with a little over 3 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter.

Reports from the McLaren family stated that Garrett initially had no feeling in his body, but he later recovered feeling and was moving at the hospital. A tragic injury was avoided and he was even later released from the hospital. It was a very tough scene for family that has already been through a whirlwind last season with his brother Steele’s tragic brain injury and ensuing recovery process. Steele was in attendance and was recognized for his recovery at halftime.

It was also a very tough ending for what was already a tough week for the Atlantic community, who is also mourning the loss of Joshua Park Jr. a day prior. Josh is the Father of Trojans starting lineman Cole Park, so the Trojans already had heavy hearts heading into the night.

The game itself featured a quick start by Atlantic and a big turnaround by ADM. The Trojans struck first with a 75-yard interception return for touchdown by Garrett McLaren. The Trojans grabbed a fumble on the Tigers’ second possession and turned that into a score with a Caden Andersen 21-yard touchdown run to go up 13-0. ADM would then score on their next four possessions to grab a 27-16 halftime lead. Brevin Doll led the charge with three touchdown runs in the half.

Tigers quarterback Matt Dufoe ran for a 27-yard touchdown and threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Bennett Holmberg in the third quarter to bring it to the final score of 40-16.

Atlantic drops to 1-4 on the season, 0-1 in District play and will host Harlan next Friday. ADM moves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in 3A District 6. The Tigers will travel to Creston next week.
