JAY ZIMMERLINE, 59, of Fontanelle & Greenfield, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, in Adair County.  Funeral services for JAY ZIMMERLINE will be held 10-a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22nd, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle has the arrangements.

Visitation will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, January 21st from 2-until 7-p.m., with the family greeting friends from 4-until 7-p.m.; Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com.

Burial is in the Fontanelle Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial.

Memorials may be directed to the Jay Zimmerline Memorial Fund, to be established by the family at a later date.

JAY ZIMMERLINE is survived by:

His daughters – Jaysa (Michael) Tucker, and Jessica Daluz, all of Greenfield; and Jeena (Jacob) Modrell, of Brayton.

His son – Jesse Zimmerline, of Greenfield.

His brothers – Jimmy (Janet) Zimmerline, of Stuart, Jerry (Mara) Zimmerline, of Fontanelle and Jack (Donna) Zimmerline, of Greenfield.

13 grandchildren; His significant other: Annette DeGraw; other relatives and friends.

Driver ticketed for 101 mph speed violation says he wanted to beat the snow storm

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol reported yet another driver clocked at more than 100 mph on social media Friday. According to a patrol Facebook post, a young driver going to see family in Cedar Rapids and was “Wanting to the beat the snowstorm.” The trooper clocked the driver on Highway 218 in Washington County at 101 mph.

Red Oak man arrested Friday night on Assault & Obstruction charges; Elliott woman arrested for Assault

(Red Oak, Iowa) – Officers with the Red Oak Police Department, Friday night, arrested 20-year-old Chad Stanley Padilla, of Red Oak. He was taken into custody in the 1600 block of E Summit Street, for Domestic Abuse Assault/2nd offense, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. Padilla was being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail.

And, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports 34-year-old Rachel Flathers, of Elliott, was arrested Friday morning on an assault charge, following an incident that occurred on Elm Street, in Elliott. Flathers was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 bond.

The rain preceding the snow, and melted snowfall, amount to .52″ of liquid value. Last year on this date, the High in Atlantic was 31 and the Low was 26. The Record High was 61 in 1990. The Record Low was -23 in 1905.

Hawkeyes defeat Northwestern 33-6

EVANSTON, Illinois — Top 10 wins from Drake Ayala and Max Murin highlighted the University of Iowa wrestling team’s 33-6 win over No. 23 Northwestern on Friday night at Welsh Ryan Arena.

Ayala topped seventh-ranked Michael DeAugustino, 6-5, at 125 pounds and Max Murin defeated No. 4 Yahya Thomas, 4-3, at 149.

Ayala used a cradle to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 advantage in the second period. He opened the third with an escape to build his lead to 6-3, finished with a 6-5 decision, his second consecutive win over a top 10 opponent.

“We like what we have there,” said Iowa head coach Tom Brands. “The story is going to keep writing itself. He will keep writing his own story.”

Northwestern won decisions at 133 and 141 before Murin got the Hawkeyes rolling at 149. Trailing 3-1 in the third, Murin opened with an escape and closed with a takedown in the final 20 seconds to get the 4-3 win.

The No. 2 Hawkeyes travel to Champaign, Illinois to face No. 21 Illinois on Sunday at 3 p.m. (CT). The dual is televised live on BTN.

Atlantic Archery Invite is postponed

The Atlantic Archery Invite on Saturday Jan. 15 is postponed. Too many teams from out of the area are not able to travel to the event due to road conditions.

RICHARD “DICK” KATES, 86, of Oakland, died Thursday, Jan. 13th. Funeral services for DICK KATES will be held 10:30-a.m. Friday, Jan. 21st, at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Rieken-Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.

Visitation with the family, at the Oakland United Methodist Church, is on Thursday, Jan. 20th, from 5:30-to 7:30-p.m.

A memorial fund has been established.

Interment will be in the Carson Cemetery at Carson.

His wife – Jo Ann Kates, of Oakland.

His daughters – Linda Smith, of Omaha, NE; Lisa (Monty) Rollins, of Oakland

His sons – Larry Kates, of Riverside, CA, and Lonnie (Julie) Kates, of Carson.

Linderbaum declares for NFL Draft, 3 other return for Hawkeyes

Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum announced on Friday that he will declare for the 2022 NFL Draft. The junior is listed as the top center prospect in the upcoming draft by many outlets.

Linderbaum has been a three-year starter for the Hawkeyes and has been a strong anchor since his redshirt freshman season in 2019 when he earned honarable mention All-Big Ten honors while starting 13 games. Linderbaum was a finalist for the Rimington Trophy in 2020 and won the award this past season as the nation’s top center.

Linderbaum is projected as a first-round pick on most mock draft boards.

Thursday the Hawkeyes received news that three other players will return for the 2022 season. Tight end Sam LaPorta, linebacker Jack Campbell, and wide receiver Charlie Jones all announced that they will come back to play next season.
