DEAN SUECK, 58, of Atlantic, died Tuesday, July 26th, at Creighton University Medical Center. Funeral services for DEAN SUECK will be held 2-p.m. Sunday, July 31st, at the Roland Funeral Home, in Atlantic.

Visitation with the family is from 6-until 8-p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.; Online condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.

Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.

NORMAN L. NISSEN, 73, of Audubon, died Tue., July 26th, at Methodist Hospital Medical Center, in Omaha. Funeral services for NORMAN NISSEN will be held 2-p.m. Sunday, July 31st, at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, west of Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family visitation is on Saturday (7/30), from 4-until 7-p.m.

Burial will be in the Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery, at the church, west of Audubon.

NORMAN NISSEN is survived by:

His wife – Lenise.

His children – Michelle (Alan) Hjelle, of Algona; Brett (Stephanie) Nissen, of Audubon; Novella Chizek & fiance’ Steven Schrader, of Audubon; and Genelle (Derek) Deist, of Audubon.

His sister – Marcia (Herb) Anciaux, of Ft. Meyers, Fl.

11 grandchildren, his brother-in-law, extended family, and countless neighbors and friends.

Arrest in Red Oak Wed. night

Sheriff’s officials in Montgomery County report an arrest occurred Wednesday night, following a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 48 and 250th Street. 37-year old Joshua Duane Mohn, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 11:30-p.m., for Driving While Barred. Mohn was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An analyst at the Iowa state crime laboratory has been let go after posting a racist rant on her Facebook page saying she no longer trusts or feels safe around blacks. The Iowa Department of Public Safety said Wednesday that criminalist Amy Pollpeter, a 10-year employee, has been terminated. Pollpeter lashed out at the Black Lives Matter movement _ and African-Americans in general _ in a Facebook post earlier this month.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Court of Appeals has reversed part of the fraud convictions of a former lottery official accused of fixing a Hot Lotto game in Iowa in 2010. The court on Wednesday upheld a fraud charge against Eddie Tipton related to tampering with lottery computers but threw out the charge related to attempting to cash the lottery ticket

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The former city clerk for the city of Neola has been charged with three felonies and other charges after a state audit last year found more than $230,000 was misspent over a five-year period. Neola officials fired Deb Schierbrock in August of 2013 after a city check written to pay for a fire truck bounced.

CLARE, Iowa (AP) — The Webster County Board of Supervisors has rejected a proposed 5,000-head hog confinement facility that would be constructed west of Clare. The Messenger reports that the board was concerned about how the water quality in Lizard Creek would be affected. The project’s impact on property values and the fact that it would’ve been owned by a company from outside the county were also considered by the board. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has the final say on the project.

Cardinals snap Familia’s saves streak, rally past Mets 5-4

NEW YORK (AP) — Yadier Molina and pinch-hitter Kolten Wong each stroked an RBI double in the ninth inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals ended Jeurys Familia’s streak of 52 straight saves in rallying past the New York Mets 5-4 on Wednesday night.

Yoenis Cespedes hit a go-ahead homer off Adam Wainwright to cap a three-run comeback in the seventh that gave the Mets a 4-3 lead. But then Familia, who hadn’t blown a regular-season save opportunity since July 30 last year, finally faltered.

Jedd Gyorko drew a one-out walk in the ninth and was replaced by pinch-runner Randal Grichuk. Molina hit the next pitch to deep center field, and Grichuk scored standing up to tie it.

Molina was thrown out at third by Familia (2-2) on pinch-hitter Jeremy Hazelbaker’s comebacker, but Hazelbaker stole second and scored when Wong lined a double just inside the left-field line. Familia’s franchise-record saves streak was the third-longest in major league history behind Tom Gordon (54) and Eric Gagne (84). Jonathan Broxton (3-2) tossed a scoreless eighth and Seung Hwan Oh got three quick outs for his sixth save.

Glenwood man & Tabor woman arrested following incident in Tabor

Authorities in Fremont County report a Mills County man and a woman from Fremont County were arrested Wednesday following an investigation into an incident in Tabor. The Tabor Chief of Police and deputies with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a male who was possibly violating a no contact order in Tabor. Upon law enforcement’s arrival to the 200 block of Orange Street in Tabor, they were advised that a male was seen running from the area, hopping a fence and then continuing south.

Deputies made contact with 20-year old Marcus Pierce, of Glenwood, near the intersection of Park Street and Vine Street in Tabor. Pierce was arrested for two counts of Violating a No Contact Order and is being held at the Fremont County Jail awaiting a review from a magistrate. 22-year old Taylor Hummel, of Tabor, was arrested for Interference with Official Acts. She is being held on $300 bond.

Iowa State’s Prohm adds former Alabama coach to staff

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Former Alabama head coach David Hobbs has been named a special assistant to Iowa State coach Steve Prohm, a former team manager under Hobbs with the Crimson Tide. Hobbs spent six seasons at Alabama, winning 110 games from 1992-98. Hobbs was later an assistant at Kentucky for seven seasons on Tubby Smith’s staff.

Hobbs has worked in the NBA since 2008, serving as a scout for Charlotte, Brooklyn and Utah. Prohm says his familiarity with Hobbs, combined with Hobbs’ professional experience, will make him a strong addition to the program.

Chiefs place RT Jamaal Charles on PUP list as camp begins

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs placed running back Jamaal Charles on the physically unable to perform list Wednesday, though coach Andy Reid said it should not be considered a setback in his return from a knee injury.

Charles tore the ACL in his right knee in Week 5 last season. He had surgery soon afterward and was far enough along in his recovery that he participated in some drills during mandatory minicamp.

The Chiefs can take Charles off the PUP list whenever he is medically cleared, but that likely will not happen soon. Veterans do not report for the start of training camp until Friday, and even then Reid said he plans to take it slowly with his star running back.
