One person was injured during a burglary incident early this (Sunday) morning, in Council Bluffs. Authorities say Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted Council Bluffs Police in responding at around 2:40-a.m. to a Burglary in Progress in the 3100 block of Avenue H. Upon arrival in the area, deputies located a male victim of the one of the burglaries being assaulted by three people, all of whom are believed to have been males. The victim had chased after the suspects and confronted them.

The three assailants fled on foot upon deputies’ arrival and as of 6-a.m. Sunday, had not been located. The suspects / assailants were wearing ski masks, dark hooded sweatshirts and dark coats. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital. His identity is not being released at this time as this is an open active joint investigation with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Department and the Council Bluffs Police Criminal Investigation Division.

Police in Council Bluffs are investigating a “shot fired” incident that took place late Saturday night. Officers were dispatched at around 11:55-p.m. to 1426 4th Avenue.  Upon arrival, they made contact with the victim, who said was parking his car when a suspect exited the residence of 1426 4th Ave and told him to move his vehicle. A verbal altercation transpired, with the suspect entering the residence and coming back out with a long barreled firearm. He again warned the victim to move his car.

After the suspect fired a round into the air,  the victim moved his car, then waited a few minutes to call police. When officers arrived none of the witnesses or the victim could confirm the suspect was still in the residence. Officers created a perimeter and attempted to make contact with anyone inside the house. It was later determined that the house was empty and the perimeter was discontinued.

An investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact crime stoppers at 712-328-7867.

Red Oak Police early this (Sunday) morning, arrested two people on Disorderly Conduct charges. 24-year old Jacob Lee Larson and 23-year old Cole Francis Meek, both of Red Oak, were taken into custody at around 1:25-a.m. in the 700 block of High Street, in Red Oak. Cole Meek was also charged with Pubic Intoxication. Both men were being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 cash bond, each.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Small groups have turned out to protest outside Planned Parenthood clinics in Iowa and Nebraska as part of a nationwide effort to pressure lawmakers to defund the women’s health group. About two dozen protesters demonstrated Saturday outside of a clinic in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Organizer Terri Naegele says passing motorists have overwhelmingly expressed their support, with the odd middle finger or curses coming from a few cars.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Edward Tipper, a World War II paratrooper who was portrayed in the HBO series “Band of Brothers,” has died. He was 95. His daughter, Kerry Tipper, says he died Feb. 1 in the Denver suburb of Lakewood. Edward Tipper was a member of Easy Company and parachuted into Normandy as part of the June 6, 1944, Allied D-Day invasion of France. The company’s exploits were retold in “Band of Brothers,” based on research by historian Stephen Ambrose.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities at the Polk County Jail say they’re investigating allegations that drugs and other contraband are being smuggled in. Des Moines television station KCCI reports that Polk County sheriff’s Lt. Rich Blaylock confirmed that his office is investigating. That confirmation came after KCCI received an anonymous letter Thursday saying a jail detention officer had been fired after allegations that the officer was selling drugs and tobacco to inmates.

CLARION, Iowa (AP) — A Clarion man pleaded guilty in federal court to receiving child pornography. The Globe Gazette reports that 24-year-old Jonathan Dean Sebert entered the plea Thursday. Prosecutors say he admitted that between August 2012 and January 2015, he knowingly received images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Sebert faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and up to 20 years when he’s sentenced at a later date.

A traffic stop late Saturday night in Shenandoah resulted in the arrest of a woman wanted on a warrant out of Fremont County for OWI/1st offense. Shenandoah Police stopped a vehicle driven by 30-year old Natalie Crosby, of Shenandoah, at around 11-p.m. in the 100 block of U-S Highway 59.

A records check indicated there was a valid warrant for Crosby, was taken into custody and booked at the Shenandoah Police Department before being turned over to deputies from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

A single-vehicle accident in southern Iowa’s Decatur County, Saturday afternoon, claimed the life of a 56-year old man. The Iowa State Patrol says Jerry Dwayne Smith, of Lamoni, died after his 1995 Ford F-250 pickup slowed before crashing through a wooden guard rail at around 3:40-p.m., about a mile north of Lamoni.

The vehicle was traveling northbound over a bridge on Smith Street (a gravel road), near the intersection with 150th Street, when the accident occurred. The pickup came to rest on its top. Smith, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. The crash remained under investigation.
