(Updated 11:27-a.m.) CLIVE, Iowa (AP) – A Texas man who graduated from high school in Denison has won a $1 million prize from the Iowa Lottery. Lottery officials say Wayne and Vicki Dixon had journeyed from Allen, Texas, for his 55-year high school class reunion. They arrived early and decided to stay Wednesday night in Avoca. As he filled up their vehicle at the Wins America Travel Centre, his wife went inside to buy a Powerball ticket.

Lottery officials say she checked it Saturday and found that it matched the first five numbers but missed the Powerball number. The consolation prize they claimed Monday: $1 million before taxes.

No one won the Powerball prize Wednesday or Saturday, so officials say they expect the jackpot to reach $430 million ($273.4 million cash option) for this Wednesday’s drawing.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says no serious injuries were reported following a rollover accident Saturday afternoon. Authorities say 17-year old Jensen Marie Carson, of Orient, was traveling east on 195th Street at around 1:05-p.m., when a deer ran in front of the 1993 Buick Skylark she was driving. Carson lost control of the car, causing it to enter the ditch on the south side of the road. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its wheels, facing east. The teen complained of possible pain and/or injury, but was not transported to the hospital.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

Sheriff’s officials in Union County say a Creston man reported Saturday, that sometime between last Thursday evening and this past Saturday, someone entered his property and took several items.  Among the items missing was a grandfather clock, a blue Yamaha 50cc mini bike, various pieces of stereo equipment including amps, subs, and a CD player, a variety of tools, including hammer, jack, jack stands and wrenches, and a blue 350cc dune buggy.  Also damaged were doors and windows to the property.  The loss was estimated value $6,150.

Authorities in Minnesota are now releasing the name of the Iowan who was killed in a crash in that state over the weekend. The Minnesota State Patrol says a car failed to yield at a median crossing late Friday night and was hit by a semi-truck along Highway 52 in Goodhue County. The car was driven by 22-year-old Jacob Nelson, of St. Ansgar, who was injured in the crash. His passenger, 22-year-old Cody Squier, of St. Angar was killed. The truck driver wasn’t hurt. Troopers say both of the Iowans were belted in and there’s no sign alcohol was a factor.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – A former mayor of Iowa City has joined the race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Ross Wilburn announced his campaign start today (Monday), saying he wants “to help us improve the way we’re doing things so we can become the Iowa folks are wanting to see.” He also says he wants to bridge the growing divisions between Iowa residents.

Wilburn served one term as Iowa City’s mayor and three terms as a council member. Wilburn worked as director of equity for the Iowa City Community School District for six years and eight years as executive director of the Crisis Center of Johnson County.

Other Democrats who’ve announced their nomination race entries are state Sen. Nate Boulton, Cathy Glasson, Fred Hubbell, Andy McGuire, John Norris, state Rep. Todd Prichard and Jon Neiderbach.

Clarinda Police investigating a disturbance between a man and a woman at around 4-a.m. today (Monday) at 10th and Main Streets, ended-up arrested a man on drug charges. Police Chief Keith Brothers says his Officers arrested 36-year old Eric Lee Adams, of Clarinda, for second offense possession of a controlled substance believed to be methamphetamine, and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Adams was being held in the Page County Jail on $2,000 bond. Clarinda Police were assisted in the investigation and arrest by Deputies with the Page County Sheriff’s Department. Investigative reports have been forwarded to the Page County Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of the filing of formal charges.
