ALTON, Iowa (AP) — No injuries were reported when a train derailed in northwest Iowa but 20 of the cars carrying soybean oil and sand fell into the flooded Floyd River.
The Des Moines Register reports the bridge beneath the Union Pacific train collapsed as part of the derailment on Sunday morning. Officials said no hazardous materials leaked into the river.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Department shot video showing the mangled pile of rail cars and the bridge in the river. Alton City Administrator Dale Oltmans says the derailment happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on the outside edge of the small town of Alton, Iowa.
Union Pacific spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza said recent flooding and heavy rain may have contributed to the derailment. The train was traveling from Mankato, Minnesota, to North Platte, Nebraska.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is just as efficient at home as he is on the road. He gets the same results, too. After winning his first three starts, all away from Arrowhead Stadium, the second-year pro finally made his regular-season home debut Sunday. Mahomes responded by torching San Francisco’s banged-up pass defense for 314 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-27 victory over the 49ers.
Mahomes now has 13 touchdown passes without an interception, breaking the NFL record for TD passes in the first three weeks of a season. Peyton Manning threw 12 to start the 2013 campaign. Mahomes’ touchdown passes to Chris Conley, Demetrius Harris and Sammy Watkins , along with a pair of TD runs by Kareem Hunt, helped Kansas City (3-0) race to a 35-7 lead late in the first half.
Few leads are safe against the Chiefs’ porous defense, though. The 49ers (1-2) rallied behind running backs Matt Breida and Alfred Morris, who kept gouging the Chiefs’ defensive front, and Jimmy Garoppolo, who threw for 251 yards and two scores . It was Garoppolo’s 11-yard pass to Marquis Goodwin early in the third quarter that started the comeback, and Morris scored on a short touchdown run later in the quarter to make it 35-24.
After the Chiefs tacked on a field goal early in the fourth to extend their lead, the 49ers came back with a grinding, 17-play drive that wiped out more than half the period. But it ended in a strange sequence that began with Garoppolo taking a hard hit from Steven Nelson along the sideline. Garoppolo easily could have stepped out of bounds, but instead he was crushed on his throwing shoulder and had to leave.
C.J. Beathard came in and threw what appeared to be a fourth-down touchdown pass to George Kittle, but it was wiped out by offensive pass interference. There was only 5:17 left, but rather than go for it on fourth-and-goal at the Kansas City 25, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan elected to kick a field goal — keeping it a two-possession game.
San Francisco proceeded to kick it deep rather than try an onside kick. The Chiefs picked up a first down on a penalty, and Hunt churned his way for two more first downs to put the game away.
The 49ers have not won in Arrowhead Stadium since Dec. 26, 1982.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Corrections report another inmate at a residential facility has escaped from a Residential Center. 53-year old Bennie Lee Davis, who was convicted of Domestic Abuse Assault- 3rd or Subsequent Offense in Scott County, walked away from his assigned residential facility in Davenport without proper authorization, Saturday.
Davis is a black male, 6-feet one-inches tall, and weighs 216 pounds. He was admitted to the work release facility on June 13, 2018. Persons with information on Davis’ whereabouts should contact local police.
On Saturday, the I-DOC reported 44-year old Charles Anthony Ware, who was also convicted of Domestic Abuse Assault, 3rd or Subsequent Offense, in Black Hawk County, failed to report back to the Waterloo Residential Center as required Friday. Ware is a black male, height 6’2″, and weighs 197 pounds. He was admitted to the work release facility on August 21, 2018.

LARRY ALLEN MUNDORF, 75, of Griswold, died Friday, September 21st, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral services for LARRY MUNDORF will be held 11-a.m. Thursday, September 27th, at the Rieken-Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold.
Visitation will be at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 6-8 PM.
Interment will be at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — New federal maps show that fewer buildings in Dubuque are at risk of flooding. The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency recently updated flood insurance maps for the area that were last changed in 2011. The new maps remove more than 40 buildings from areas where flood insurance is required.
The current flood insurance rate maps list 236 structures in the 100-year flood plain.
Assistant City Planner Wally Wernimont says the new maps are based on more accurate information. They will be used to help guide development plans in the area.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Eli Dunne threw three touchdown passes, Trevor Allen and Marcus Weymiller each ran for a score and Northern Iowa forced five turnovers in shutting out Hampton 44-0 on Saturday. Dunne was 16 of 23 for 191 yards passing, with TD strikes of 19 yards to Nick Fossey and 12 yards to Deion McShane. Delmon Williams was 4 of 16 for 52 yards passing for Hampton (1-2), with three interceptions.
