Sheriff’s officials in Mills County report 20-year old Jacobi Christion Mauer, of Council Bluffs, was arrested at around 11:35-p.m., Wednesday. Mauer was taken into custody at 195th Street and Lambert Avenue, for  Driving While License Revoked and violation of Motor Vehicle Financial liability. He was also arrested on a warrant out of Pottawattamie County, for OWI/1st offense. Bond for Mauer was set at $3,000 altogether.

A large painting owned by the University of Iowa is on an international tour, with its latest stop being the Columbia Museum of Art in South Carolina, where the curator is an Iowan. Catherine Walworth (WALL-worth) says Peggy Guggenheim commissioned Jackson Pollock to paint “Mural” for her New York apartment in 1943. The painting is Pollock’s largest, at eight-by-20 feet, and she says it “catapulted him into the spotlight.”  “I’m very much into the life the painting has led — of adventure and squabbling,” Walworth says. “It’s led a very fascinating life as an object. I’m planning to focus on Iowa and why Peggy Guggenheim would have given it to the University of Iowa and really share some of my pride in that.”

Walworth grew up in Burlington. Her mother still lives there and told Walworth all about the 2008 flood that forced “Mural” out of its home at the U-I. The painting was rescued from the U-I art museum shortly before the building was inundated by high water. Coincidentally, Walworth moved to Columbia in the spring of 2016. “They had a terrible flood just the fall before in 2015 so it was very much on my mind and I was thinking of what exhibitions to take and I thought about whose collections are on the road,” Walworth says. “Then, I thought about the flood and I checked in and there was the Pollock, so it was a perfect happenstance.”

The painting — which may be worth as much as 150-million dollars — will be on display in Columbia until mid-May, then it’ll head to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Eventually, “Mural” will have a new home in the University of Iowa’s yet-to-be-built art museum.

A man from Shelby County was arrested Wednesday morning, after allegedly pulling a gun on a business employee in Woodbine. According to reports, at around 10:50-a.m., Wednesday, 45-year old Richard Green, of Harlan, allegedly walked into NuStyle Development at 514 Walker Street and interacted with an employee, before displaying a weapon. Green eventually fled the scene, but was apprehended in Harlan. He was booked into the Harrison County Jail for robbery in the first degree, with multiple, additional charges pending.

Minor injuries were reported. Woodbine schools went into lock-down upon hearing about the incident. Employees immediately cleared the outside perimeter of the building, including playgrounds. Students were sent to safe areas inside the building. Doors were checked to ensure they were locked and secure, the school district said in a letter to parents. Green was arrested shortly after the lockdown went into effect and school resumed normal operations.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) will host the annual Sullivan Brothers’ Award of Valor Ceremony on Monday, December 17, 2018. The event will take place at the State Capitol Rotunda at 10:30-a.m. Governor Kim Reynolds and DPS Commissioner Roxann Ryan will honor four individuals with the 2018 Sullivan Brothers’ Award of Valor for their heroic effort in the attempt to save a life earlier this year in Waukee.

2018 Sullivan Brothers’ Award of Valor Recipients: Fire Chief Clint Robinson, Firefighter/Paramedic Josh Hutton and Fire Inspector Justin Frederick, all with the Waukee Fire Department, and Sergeant Hector Arias, with the Waukee Police Department.

On June 26th, 2018, around 1:50 p.m., Westcom Communications received several 911 calls indicating that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Hickman Road had left the roadway and came to rest in a small pond. Callers indicated that they believed there was a single occupant in the vehicle and the car was submerged in the pond with the driver still in the vehicle. The four men will be honored for their heroic actions performed during the rescue effort.

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have arrested a northern Iowa man who allegedly led them on a high-speed chase on Interstate 35 in a stolen pickup. The Globe Gazette in Mason City reports that 29-year-old Adam Benjamin Collings, of Cresco, was charged Tuesday with first-degree theft, eluding law enforcement and reckless driving. The chase began in Clear Lake and ended in Worth County. Authorities say Collings fled an Iowa State Patrol trooper who attempted to stop the red 2004 Ford pickup truck he was driving.

Authorities say speeds topped 100 mph as he merged onto Interstate 35 northbound. He also allegedly made an unsafe pass around a semi using the highway’s right shoulder. Authorities say Collings was arrested after he lost control and stopped in a median.

Police in Creston report two people were arrested on separate drug-related charges, Wednesday. At around 8:40-a.m., 34-year old Arturo Marin, of Afton, was arrested in the 300 block of N. Division Street, for Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana – 1st offense. Marin was later released on a $1,000 bond. And, at around 11:10-a.m., 30-year old Christopher Woolums, of Creston, was arrested in the 800 block of W. Montgomery Street, on three Union County warrants for: Theft in the 5th degree; Failure to Appear on original charges of two-counts Controlled Substance Violation, and, Failure to Appear on a Possession of a Controlled Substance/3rd or subsequent offense, charge. He was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance/3rd or subsequent offense. Woolums was being held in the Union County Jail on a $30,300 bond.

Creston Police said also, a woman residing in the 400 block of N. Maple Street, reported that sometime on Tuesday, someone broke into her home and took a Playstation 3, and a Samsung 6 cell phone. The loss was estimated at $200. On Dec. 7th, a resident of Norwalk reported to Creston Police, that at around 9-p.m. Friday, someone broke into his vehicle while it was parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Creston, and took a bag containing hunting gear/outerwear. The loss was estimated at $200.
