A collision between a car and and semi late Monday morning in Carroll County, resulted in the death of a woman from Kentucky. The Iowa State Patrol reports 29-year old Tia Monique Newsome, of Radcliff, KY, died at the scene of the crash that happened at around 11:43-a.m., at the intersection of County Road H-33 and E. 18th Street.

The Patrol says Newsome was driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber eastbound on E. 18th Street and failed to stop at the posted intersection. Her car ran into the side of a southbound 2006 Peterbilt semi driven by 24-year old Cody Michael Farrell, of Glidden. Farrell was not injured in the crash.

Following the collision, the Dodge came to rest in the west ditch. The semi came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

Sheriff’s deputies in Adams County were dispatched at around 9:30-p.m., Monday, to a situation in Prescott involving a “Potentially dangerous individual.” A caller stated that there was a bald man, possibly in the 30’s or 40’s, walking around outside and shouting that “He was going to start killing people.”

Adams County Deputies located and detained 40-year old Casey Claiser, of West Des Moines,, in the 400 block of 6th Avenue, in Prescott.

Upon further investigation, Claiser was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance/2nd offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Red Oak Police report a woman was arrested on assault and other charges early this (Tuesday) morning. Authorities say 29-year old Mildred Helenora Douglas, of Red Oak, was taken into custody at around 1:34-a.m. on active warrants for Domestic Abuse Assault/2nd offense, and Violation of a No Contact Order. She additionally faces a new, Violation of a No Contact Order charge.

Douglas was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A legislative panel has delayed a portion of the new sports gambling rules that would allow the state to collect some the winnings of those who owe child support, back taxes or criminal debt. The Iowa Administrative Rules Review Committee on Monday approved a request by the state’s casinos to delay that portion of the rules to allow lawmakers next year to clarify how they want debts collected against sports gambling winnings.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A man has been sentenced to five years in prison after admitting he fatally punched a Sioux City man and then fled to Mexico. The Sioux City Journal reports that 25-year-old Ray Avila pleaded guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter and flight to avoid prosecution in the July 29, 2018, assault of Peter Johnson. After being punched, the 31-year-old Johnson fractured his skull on a sidewalk and died later at a hospital. After the incident, Avila fled to Mexico, where he was arrested in May.

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — Lawyers for an Iowa inmate serving a life sentence in a 1980 murder conviction will be allowed to search for missing evidence that they want for DNA testing. Judge Stuart Werling has ordered the Muscatine County attorney’s office to allow lawyers for William Beeman to search all evidence and storage locations for several items that may have semen or blood on them. Beeman was convicted in the stabbing death of 22-year-old Michiel Winkel, whose body was found at Wildcat Den State Park.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Authorities in Minnesota have arrested an Iowa pastor on charges that he sexually assaulted two girls at a home in Omaha, Nebraska. Police in Carlton County, Minnesota, arrested 44-year-old Emanuel J. Rodriguez on Saturday morning on a Douglas County, Nebraska, arrest warrant that charged him with two counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child. The website for the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa, lists Rodriguez as a pastor.

The Mills County Sheriff’s Office, Monday, provided a list of arrests dating back to July 31st. Most recently:

• On Sunday, Aug. 11, 25-year old Aime Carol Germer-King, of Ralston, NE., was arrested following a traffic stop at around 6:30-p.m. on Highway 34. She was charged with OWI/1st offense, and three counts of Child Endangerment. Bond was set at $7,000.
• On Saturday, Aug. 10, 22-year old Cody Lynn Powell, of Farragut, was arrested at Highway 275/Rains Avenue, for two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving Under Suspension. His bond was set at $2,300.
• Arrested Friday, Aug. 9th, at 44-year old Shawn Bernard Studey, of Shenandoah. He was taken into custody at the Mills County Sheriff’s Office (S/O), on a warrant for Probation Violation. Bond $1,000.
• On Aug. 8th, 44-year old Joshua Mitchell Arban, of Auburn, NE., was arrested at the Mills County S/O on a warrant for OWI/1st offense. He was being held without bond.
• On Aug. 6th, 19-year old Gage Matthew Bothwell, of Council Bluffs, was arrested at the Mills County S/O on a warrant for OWI/1st offense. Bond $1,000.
• Aug 5th, Mills County Deputies arrested 26-year old Ivan Lozano, of Council Bluffs, for Driving While Barred. Bond $2,000.
• Aug. 4th, Deputies arrested 29-year old Cally Marie Schooley, of Henderson, for calling 9-1-1 about a non-emergency. Bond $300.
• There were two separate arrests August 2nd in Mills County: 37-year old Brandy Nickole Clark, of Glenwood, was arrested at the Mills County S/O, on a Probation Violation warrant (Bond $2,000); and 37-year old Gavin Brooks Blasi, of Borger, TX, was arrested for Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree and Public Intoxication. (Bond $2,300).
• And, on July 31st, 32-year old Kristen Michelle Kermeen, of Glenwood, was arrested on a Pottawattamie County warrant for Failure to Appear on a charge of Driving While Barred. Kermeen was being held without bond in the Mills County Jail.

Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater, Monday (Today), reported five arrests took place last week. At around 12:20-a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7th, 31-year old Jose Stephen Bernal-Miller, of Hartington, NE., was arrested in Orient on a charge of Public Intoxication, after he parked his vehicle on private property, then walked around on the street in the area of South Oak Street and Highway 25. Bernal-Miller told authorities he did not know how he arrived at his current location. He said he’d been drinking with friends and was left behind. The man was brought to the Adair County Jail and released later in the day on a $3,000 cash or surety bond.

At around 3:20-p.m., Wednesday, Greenfield Police arrested 41-year old Jason Dean Hauf, of Greenfield, on an Adair County warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3rd or subsequent offense. Hauf was released a few hours later, on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.

A little after 11-p.m. August 5th, 41-year old Brandie Sue Whitney, of Creston, was arrested at the Union County Jail, on an Adair County warrant for Violation of Probation. She was released shortly thereafter, on a $1,000 cash or surety bond.

And, at around 3:15-a.m. on Aug. 5th, 29-year old Justin Lee Whipple, of Perry, was arrested for OWI/3rd offense, and Driving While Barred. He was taken into custody following an investigation into a possible motor vehicle accident in the 1300 block of the Stuart Road, in Stuart.

A caller told authorities the vehicle was a 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo SS, and that it belonged to Justin’s father. The same vehicle was found in a driveway to a wind turbine located in the vicinity of the reported accident. Justin Whipple was identified as the driver. He told an Adair County Deputy that he hit a very big deer, and admitted to having taken the vehicle from his father without permission.

Earlier that same evening, Stuart Police took a report of a road rage incident involving a vehicle matching the description of the Monte Carlo. The victim of the incident described the driver and vehicle, which matched Whipple and the car. Whipple’s preliminary breath test showed a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of .08.

After he was transported to the Adair County Jail, a second breath sample resulted in a BAC of .219, or more than twice the legal limit. Whipple was being held in the Adair County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Authorities in Minnesota have arrested an Iowa pastor on charges that he sexually assaulted two girls at a home in Omaha, Nebraska. An affidavit filed Friday accused Rodriguez of fondling two girls between Jan. 1, 2017, and May 17, 2019, inside two homes in Omaha previously owned by Rodriguez. The girls are now ages 12 and 11. It’s unclear when Rodriguez will be returned to Omaha.

Sheriff’s Deputies in Page County today (Monday), arrested 71-year old Phillip Eugene Holmes, of Clarinda. Holmes was arrested at the Page County Courthouse on a Page County Warrant for Criminal Mischief 5th and Trespassing.

He posted $300 bond and was released pending further court proceedings.
