The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office released details Monday on a number of recent arrests.

On Friday evening an Underwood woman was arrested following a short pursuit. A Deputy initiated a traffic stop on South 1^st Street and Pierce Street at approximately 9:24 p.m. and a pursuit began. After a short pursuit the vehicle stopped and 32-year-old Carri Sue Nelson of Underwood was charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Interference with Official Acts, Operating under the Influence 3^rd or Subsequent Offense, and Reckless Driving.

Also on Friday 54-year-old Deborah Sue Miller.  Miller was arrested Friday after Deputies were called to 1400 Big Lake Road for a vehicle in water. Miller was charged with Operating While Intoxicated 1^st Offense.

On Saturday, September 21st Deputies arrested 35-year-old Wallace Clifford Franks. The arrest occurred after Deputies were called to the Casey’s General Store in Avoca for an armed subject. Franks was charged with Carrying Weapons.

On Monday morning 33-year-old Shakir Jama Farah of Sioux City was charged with Criminal Mischief 4^th after damaging a sprinkler in a holding cell Sunday night at the Pottawattamie County Jail. Farah was originally booked in for Trespassing and now faces an additional charge of Criminal Mischief 4^th.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Minor flooding is expected this week in Iowa communities along the Mississippi River.

The National Weather Service says the river is swelling with runoff from heavy rain in southern Wisconsin and northeastern Iowa, plus the runoff from heavy rain this past weekend in eastern Iowa. Nearly 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) was reported at several spots.

The river is expected to crest about a half-foot (15.2 centimeters) over minor flood stage at Davenport on Wednesday morning. That could lead to flooding at LeClaire Park. In April floodwater rushed into downtown Davenport when a barrier failed.

The crest at Muscatine is expected to be a foot (30.4 centimeters) above minor flood stage on Thursday morning.

At Burlington, a crest about 8 inches (20.3 centimeters) above minor flood stage is expected overnight Thursday into Friday.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Thayer man on Sunday evening. At 6:00pm Sunday Deputies arrested 50-year-old Brian Paul Ringgenberg of Thayer for assault with intent to inflict serious injury. He was being held in the Union County Jail awaiting an appearance before the Magistrate.

(Radio Iowa) The Des Moines Register/C-N-N Iowa Poll released this weekend shows four-out-of-five Iowa Caucus-goers have not settled yet on a candidate.

Teresa Keenan of Atlantic had narrowed her list down to three candidates when she got to the Steak Fry.

Trent Kutchara of Council Bluffs has narrowed his choices down to Warren and Sanders from a field that he SUGGESTS is too crowded.

Seventy-three-year-old Dan Corsair of Indianola is deciding between Booker and Buttigieg.

The next big gathering for Iowa Democrats will be the party’s fall fundraiser on November 1st. It’s to be held at Wells Fargo Arena, the largest indoor venue in Des Moines.

(Radio Iowa) The Missouri River is out of its banks, again, forcing the Iowa Department of Transportation to close a 20-mile stretch of Interstate 29 as well as a section of I-680. D-O-T engineer Austin Yates says about a mile of I-29 is underwater and the water is up to two feet deep.

The National Weather Service warns even trying to drive through a few inches of water is extremely dangerous and not advised. Interstate 29 is closed from Council Bluffs to Loveland, 20 miles to the north, while I-680 is closed from the Missouri River to the I-29 interchange. Yates says they’re keeping a close watch on several sections of roadways in the region.

Yates says the D-O-T expects the highways to be closed all week, based on the forecasts for the Missouri River. Closures have been frequent in western Iowa due to persistent flooding since early spring.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A judge has ordered jurors to resume their work Monday in the trial of an eastern Iowa hog farmer accused of using a corn rake to kill his wife.

The Telegraph Herald reports that the jury deliberated for nearly three hours Friday in a Dubuque courtroom after closing arguments regarding 43-year-old Todd Mullis. Mullis is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Amy Mullis on Nov. 10 at the farm about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Dubuque.

Prosecutor Maureen Hughes said Friday that Mullis had wanted to kill his wife for years and was irate over her affair.

Mullis’ attorney suggested that Amy Mullis startled someone in the farm’s shed where she was found, prompting that person to impale her in the back with the corn rake.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A Sioux City teacher accused of sending critical letters to her superintendent and other district leaders is appealing her firing.

The Sioux City Journal reports that Julie Fischer’s petition for judicial review says the Sioux City Community School District board’s decision to terminate Fischer’s employment violated her First Amendment right to free speech. Fischer is asking for a reversal of the board’s decision, reinstatement and an award of back pay and benefits. No hearings have been scheduled.

The school board voted to fire Fischer even though a judge cleared her of criminal charges. In March a judge dismissed six counts of harassment Fischer faced, saying the letters were free speech, not harassment.

The board has said Fischer was not terminated because of the letters, but because she violated the district’s Mandatory Cooperation in Workplace Investigation Policy and Code of Ethics. The board ruled that Fischer made false statements and provided misleading information during the district’s investigation.
