The IKM-Manning Wolves landed a strong number of players on the Class A District 2 All-District Awards list.

1st Team Offensive selections for the Wolves were: Running Backs Amos Rasmussen and Kyler Rasmussen, Offensive Lineman Will Jorgensen, and Wide Receiver Parker Behrens.

1st Team Defensive honorees for the Wolves are: Defensive Lineman Brody Swearingen and Linbacker Colten Brandt.

Amos Rasmussen was also named the First Team Specialist. Colten Brandt was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Tom Casey was named Head Coach of the Year. Cory McCarville was honored as an Assistant Coach of the Year as well.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – – University of Iowa defensive end A.J. Epenesa has been recognized as Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week following Iowa’s 23-19 win over seventh-ranked Minnesota. The announcement was made Monday by the Big Ten office.

Epenesa (6-foot-6, 280-pounds) is a native of Glen Carbon, Illinois (Edwardsville High School). He earns the third conference honor of his career after sharing the defensive honor a year ago for his play in wins over Iowa State and Illinois.

Epenesa recorded three solo tackles and one assist as Iowa handed Minnesota its first loss of the season. He recorded 2.5 of Iowa’s six sacks, along with forcing a fumble and collecting one quarterback pressure. His final tackle of the game came on Minnesota’s final possession and resulted in the Golden Gophers facing a third-and-21 in the final two minutes. Riley Moss intercepted a Minnesota pass two players later to secure the Iowa victory.

Epenesa has 26 tackles in 10 games (16 solo, 10 assists). He leads the Hawkeyes with seven sacks and nine quarterback pressures, while ranking second in tackles for loss. He shares the team lead with two forced fumbles.

The Atlantic girls basketball team will get a jump start on the season tonight when they host Lenox for an Iowa Hall of Pride scrimmage. The program allows teams to play a full game setting scrimmage that doesn’t count on the team’s record and the teams involved do a community service project.

Atlantic will be participating in the “Family Dreams Christmas” program with the Atlantic Police Department for the second straight year as their community service project. That project involves volunteers and Officers taking people in need shopping.

The game between Atlantic and Lenox tonight will start at 6:45pm at the Atlantic High School. The Trojans will officially open up the regular season on Friday with a trip to Bondurant-Farrar.

The Iowa Association of Track Coaches announced their selections for Cross Country Coaches of the Year last week. Each class had a State Coach of the Year chosen and a number of At Large Coach of the Year selections were chosen as well.

In Class 1A Girls Kelli Kersten of Logan-Magnolia was named the State Coach of the Year. She led the Panthers to their 2nd straight state title this season.

In 1A Boys Alexia Cochran of Tri-Center and Darrell Burmeister of Nodaway Valley were At Large Coach of the Year selections.

In Class 2A Girls Colin Shawgo of ACGC was honored as an At Large Coach of the Year choice.

In Class 3A Girls Doug Renky of Harlan was an At-Large choice as well.
