IRVING, Texas – Iowa State sophomore Ashley Joens claimed her first Big 12 Player of the Week honor of her career, the league announced Monday.

Ashley Joens had the biggest week of her career, totaling 56 points and 34 rebounds in just two games. Against Texas Southern, Joens’ night was nothing short of historic, and she completed the first 30-20 game in ISU women’s basketball history. In doing so, she became just the fourth Big 12 player to complete a 30-20 game since 1999-00, joining Brittney Griner, Courtney Paris and Danielle Crockrom.

Joens did not let up as she helped ISU to their first road win of the season. Joens tallied 26 points and 14 boards against the Bison, for her fourth career double-double and second straight. On the week the Iowa City, Iowa native averaged 28.0 points and 17.0 rebounds.

Joens is currently first in the Big 12 in scoring, with 24.3 points and third nationally. She is also third in the Big 12 with 12.3 rebounds per game and 10th in the nation. Joens was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week three times last season.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa kicker Keith Duncan has been named one of three finalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award. The announcement was made Monday by the Palm Beach Country Sports Commission, presented by the Orange Bowl.

Narrowed down from 20 semifinalists, Georgia’s Rodrigo Blankenship and Washington State’s Blake Mazza are the other two finalists. Iowa’s Nate Kaeding won the award in 2002 and was a finalist in 2003.

Duncan (5-foot-10, 180-pounds), a Weddington, North Carolina, native, was named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week earlier Monday. He connected on four field goals (23, 45, 24, 29) in Iowa’s win over Illinois to break the Big Ten and Iowa single-season record with 27 made field goals. The four made field goals ties a career high (Iowa State, Purdue) and his six field goal attempts were a career-best.

This season, Duncan is 27-of-32 on field goal attempts, 12-of-16 on field goals of 40 or more yards, and a perfect 22-of-22 on PATs. Duncan’s 36 career made field goals are the sixth-most all-time in program history.

Duncan was recognized by the Lou Groza Award following his play in wins over Iowa State and Purdue.

The winner of the award will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show Thursday, Dec. 12.

The Hawkeyes wrap up the regular season Friday (1:30 p.m. (CT), BTN), traveling to Lincoln to face Nebraska in the Hy-Vee Heroes Game at Memorial Stadium.

Brock Purdy

IRVING, Texas – Iowa State sophomore quarterback Brock Purdy was named the Big 12’s Offensive Player of the Week, announced today by the league office.

It’s Purdy’s second weekly honor by the Big 12 this season, winning offensive player of the week accolades after the ULM game.

Purdy was sensational in guiding the Cyclones to their second-straight fourth-quarter comeback victory in a win over Kansas (41-31).

A native of Gilbert, Ariz., Purdy threw for 372 yards (29-42) and four touchdowns, and had a rushing touchdown in the victory. It marked the third time this season Purdy was responsible for five or more touchdowns in a game.

The Cyclones were down by three points heading into the fourth quarter, but Purdy got hot in the final stanza, completing all 10 pass attempts for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a TD in the final quarter to secure the win.

His 372 passing yards is the 11^th-best single-game effort in school history and increased his school record season total of 300-yard passing games to six.

Purdy set the following season school records in the game: passing yards (3,575), completions (280), total offense (3,843) and consecutive games with a touchdown pass (11).

Purdy, who is a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, ranks in the top-four nationally in the following categories: completions (3^rd, 25.5), passing yardage (4^th, 325.0) and total offense (4^th, 349.4).
