The National Weather Service in Des Moines “It was just a matter of time, but it is mid-December in Iowa and we’re expecting snow across southern Iowa Sunday into Monday.” Officials say the snow looks develop over far western Iowa late Sunday morning and gradually spread east over the rest of southern Iowa and portions of northern Missouri during the afternoon and evening hours Sunday. Accumulating snow is likely along and south of Interstate 80 and the highest snowfall is anticipated along and south of Highway 34 to the Missouri border.One-to 2 inches of snow are possible here in the Atlantic area. 
The period of time when the bulk of the snow will accumulate is expected to be late Sunday afternoon through late Sunday evening. Lingering snow is possible through late Monday morning across the southeast. Snow covered and very slick roads can be expected by Sunday evening and into Monday, impacting the morning commute. After this storm rolls through the state, the rest of the week will be dry and mild.

A traffic stop on a vehicle in Red Oak for a minor traffic infraction, Friday, morning, resulted in the arrest of a person on drug and other charges. Red Oak Police say the unidentified individual was arrested for Driving While Barred, Manner of Conveyance (unloaded firearm), Possession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Marijuana.
The defendant, was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $2,000 cash bond. Red Oak Police were assisted by Montgomery County Sheriff Deputies.

RUTH ELLA NEWBERG, 86, of Atlantic, died Friday, Dec. 13th, at Atlantic Specialty Care. Memorial services for RUTH NEWBERG will be held 11:30-a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17th, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Visitation at the funeral home is from 5-until 7-p.m. Monday, Dec. 16th.
A family graveside service will be held 10-a.m. Tuesday, in the Arlington Cemetery in Villisca.

(AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have ruled out cornerbacks Morris Claiborne and Rashad Fenton for their game against the Denver Broncos while pass rusher Frank Clark is questionable after returning to practice Friday. The only other player questionable for Sunday’s game is running back Damien Williams. He was limited early this week with a rib injury and an illness, but he did not practice at all on Friday. Claiborne did not practice all week while dealing with a shoulder injury. Fenton has been out with a hamstring injury.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Right-hander Jesse Hahn returned to the Kansas City Royals just 11 days after he was let go when he agreed to a $600,000, one-year contract. The 30-year-old right-hander can earn an additional $200,000 in bonuses based on days on the active roster. Hahn had Tommy John surgery in 2010, injured his ulnar collateral ligament again during spring training in 2018 and had what is called primary repair procedure on the elbow in August 2018. He returned on Sept. 5 in his first big league appearance since June 2017, and made six relief appearances in the final month of the season.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Rob Phinisee scored seven of his season-high 16 points in overtime and Trayce Jackson-Davis added a career-high 25 points to help the Indiana Hoosiers get past Nebraska 96-90. Indiana won its first Big Ten game of the season and its second straight overall. Dachon Burke Jr. had a career-high 25 points and Haanif Cheatham finished with 21 to lead Nebraska. The Cornhuskers have lost three straight and had their longest winning streak in the series snapped at three.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska basketball team is missing one of its top scorers as it opens Big Ten play this weekend. Coach Fred Hoiberg says guard Jervay Green is suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. Green started the first nine games and is averaging just over 10 points and five rebounds per game. The Huskers play at Indiana on Friday night and host Purdue on Sunday.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Ty-Shon Alexander had 22 points, tying his season high, as Creighton easily defeated Texas Rio Grande Valley 89-58. Marcus Zegarowski added 21 points for the Bluejays. Alexander made 13 of 15 free throws. He added eight rebounds. Mitch Ballock had 11 points for Creighton (8-2), which earned its fourth consecutive win. Jordan Jackson had 13 points for the Vaqueros (4-6).

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — In Iowa, where nearly 17,000 residents work in the health insurance industry, candidates are facing questions about how their health care plans could affect jobs in the state. Des Moines is home to Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield’s health insurance headquarters. Some candidates have already faced questions about the issue on the campaign trail. This week, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg went on the offensive. Referencing Sen. Bernie Sanders’ and Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s “Medicare for All” plans, he argued that some candidates’ health care plans would “eliminate the job of every single American working at every single insurance company in the country.”
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — One of the world’s largest banks will reap a windfall from the University of Iowa’s multi-billion-dollar plan to outsource its utility operations before students or faculty see any benefit from the deal. Wells Fargo is expected to get nearly 1% of the nearly $1.2 billion payment that the university has negotiated for leasing its utility system to a private operator. A university spokeswoman estimates Wells Fargo will receive about $10.45 million. The university hired the bank as its strategic advisor on the transaction. The Iowa Board of Regents on Tuesday awarded a 50-year contract to a private company to operate its steam, cooling, water, and electricity infrastructure.
CENTERVILLE, Iowa (AP) — An atheist leader says his organization will fight to add displays of its own if a Nativity scene is returned to a courthouse lawn in southern Iowa. The Daily Iowegian reports that the Nativity scene was moved Monday from the Appanoose County Courthouse lawn in Centerville. Some residents had complained that a religious display should not be placed on government property. Justin Scott is state director for the American Atheists organization. He says the group will demand equal access if officials return the scene to the courthouse. The Centerville City Council is scheduled to discuss the issue Monday.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The director of the Iowa Department of Transportation is leaving his job next month after Gov. Kim Reynolds asked him to resign. Mark Lowe is a lawyer who was appointed to the post by Reynolds in May 2017. The governor’s spokesman says she has decided to seek a change in leadership. Lowe became general counsel for the Iowa DOT in 2008 before becoming director of the motor vehicle division and then interim director. His resignation letter released Friday makes no mention of why he was asked to leave. His resignation is effective Jan. 10.
The Atlantic-CAM Wrestling team sits in 17th place after day one of the Council Bluffs Classic at the Mid-America Center. The Trojans notched 72 points on the day. Aybren Moore at 113 and Cale Roller at 285 are still alive for individual titles.

Iowa State offensive tackle Julian Good-Jones and tight end Charlie Kolar were named to the Associated Press All-Big 12 First Team on Friday.
Kolar was a unanimous choice.. Quarterback Brock Purdy, running back Breece Hall, and linebacker Marcel Spears Jr. were all 2nd Team choices for the Cyclones.
Oklahoma doesn’t have The Associated Press offensive player of the year for the first time during its stretch of winning five consecutive Big 12 titles. Instead, the offensive player of the year is Oklahoma State running back and national rushing leader Chuba Hubbard. Baylor career sacks leader James Lynch is the top defensive player. Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts, the graduate transfer from Alabama, was the unanimous pick as first-team quarterback. Hurts also got all 20 votes as the conference’s top newcomer. Baylor’s Mat Rhule is the AP Big 12 coach of the year.
