Man charged in fatal Sioux City stabbing earlier this month

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Police say a Sioux City man has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in a stabbing earlier this month that left one man dead and injured a woman. The Sioux City Journal reports that 54-year-old Michael Landrum was charged Friday in Woodbury County for the Sept. 11 stabbings of 37-year-old Salahadin Adem and 43-year-old Natasha Drappeaux.

Police say Landrum had been at Drappeaux’s apartment for a party and later returned looking for his missing cellphone, accusing Adem and Drappeaux of taking it. Police say he left and returned a second time, stabbing Drappeaux several times with a knife when she answered the door. Police say when Adem came to her assistance, Landrum fatally stabbed him.

Bayard man arrested Saturday on a Theft charge & NE warrant

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest on Saturday of 35-year-old William Ray Bonar, from Bayard. Bonar was taken into custody for Theft 2nd (Possession of Stolen Property), following the execution of a search warrant at 116 3rd Street in Bayard.

The warrant was for property stolen in Adair County and Bonar had some of the items for sale on a Facebook swap page. Among the items seized into evidence was: a tool box with tools (Valued at $500), a gas powered air compressor (valued at $1,200+), new vehicle rotors ($400), and a two-way radio ($300), or a total value of $2,400.

Bonar was interviewed and admitted to knowing the items were stolen. He was being held in the Guthrie County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond, and on a warrant out of Nebraska for Failure to Appear for sentencing.

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports also:

  • Alicia Beardsley and Patrick Beardsley, of Guthrie Center, were arrested for Violation of a No Contact Order. Both were released by a magistrate Monday on their own recognizance.
  • Kimberly Doherty of Casey, was arrested Monday for OWI/1st offense and was released that same day.
  • Payton Hill of Stuart, was arrested Thursday for Violation of No Contact Order and released the following day.

Polk County man served w/Union County warrants

A man from Polk County who is being held in the Union County Jail, was serviced Sunday with two warrants for Failure to Appear on Child Support Matters. 56-year old Christopher Lee Thurmand, of Des Moines, remains in the jail on a $2,000 bond.

Calif. man arrested in Glenwood

Police in Glenwood, Monday, said a man from California was arrested Sept. 13th for Public Intoxication and Interference with Official Acts. 35-year old Douglas Hardy, from Escondido, was held on a $600 bond and released after serving a 24-hour sentence.

Cold Springs Park paving project

The Cass County Conservation Board will begin a paving project at Cold Springs Park on Monday September 28, 2020. The Board asks all campers, camping the weekend of September 26-27 to please vacate the park by 5:00pm on Sunday September 27. The park will be closed to traffic/use for a couple days, pending weather, to complete the project.

The CCCB says “We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but are excited to have the project completed to offer a better experience in the park. If you have any questions please call our office at 712-769-2372.”

Adair County Sheriff’s report (9/21) – 2 arrests

The Adair County Sheriff’s Department reports two arrests took place last week. Friday afternoon, 50-year old Pamela Sue Bruns, of Greenfield, was arrested by Adair County Deputies at a residence in rural Greenfield, for Domestic Abuse Assault by impeding the flow of air and/or blood. Bruns was taken into custody following a call from one of Bruns’ daughters, that her 21-year old sister sat in a chair at a computer desk, and Pamela Bruns placed her in a choke hold for approximately five-seconds.  Bruns later apologized to the 21-year old. The Sheriff’s report said Pamela Bruns was taken into custody at around 4:43-p.m. and released on her own recognizance about 45 minutes later.

On September 15th, 49-year old Brian Louie Peterson, of Adair, was arrested by Adair Police, on charges that include Drug Trafficking more than five-grams but less than 100 kilograms of methamphetamine, Pharmacy -General Penalty (Unlawful possession of prescription drugs), Drug Tax Stamp Violations, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Peterson was taken into custody after a search warrant was executed at his residence at 709 Guthrie Street, Apt. A, in Adair.

Inside the apartment, authorities found more than five-grams of meth, baggies, a weighing scale, glass pipes and currency. While the search was underway, a female stopped by the residence looking to purchase meth from Peterson. Peterson was subsequently charged with Possession with the Intent to deliver/Meth, and the other aforementioned charges. He was released from the Adair County Jail Sept. 18th on a $10,000 cash or surety bond, with 10% acceptable.

BOYD RAY LUTZ, 54, of Adair died August 16th at his home.  Graveside services for BOYD RAY LUTZ will be held on Saturday, September 26th at 10:30 am in the Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair.  Hockenberry Family Care in Adair has the arrangements.

U of Iowa Athletics COVID-19 testing update

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa Athletics Department conducted 743 COVID-19 tests for the week of Sept. 14-20, 2020. Seven positive tests and 736 negative tests have been received. As part of the return to campus protocol, testing began May 29, 2020, and includes student-athletes, coaches and staff. A total of 228 positive tests, 4,225 negative tests and one inconclusive test have been received.

Following the positive test result, protocol established by UI Athletics and medical staff, including contact tracing procedures, is being followed to ensure the safety of all UI Athletics student-athletes and staff. This mandatory protocol also includes isolation for the individuals who test positive, and quarantine for those individuals who might have been exposed to someone with the virus.
